Bill Martin Unplugged - The Bill Martin Award for Lunacy in Government

Posted by Aaron Park on August 13, 2008 at 08:39 AM

Bill Martin posted a “memo” on the Save Sierra College Website. It is a thesis for how he thinks Sierra College should be run financially. Save Sierra College (From What!?) should do a double-take, unless they agree with Martin – in which case a padded cell with fingerpaints may be in order.

Four years ago, the college had just suffered through three straight budget deficits totaling $850,000. As a result, they had cut hundreds of course sections, and slashed library hours, student tutoring and labs. (By the way, that viewpoint was endorsed by former Auburn Mayor Cheryl Maki in 2004…but she disagreed with the leadership change at the college and has changed her opinion now.)

It appears that the desire to avenge Kevin Ramirez has caused lapses in judgement.

Bill Martin makes several assertions in his posting on the Save Sierra College Website that deserve a Kool-Aid award. Actually, he should receive 5 Kool-Aid awards for the five main points of his argument. This edition of the Kool-Aid award is called the Bill Martin Award for Lunacy in Government.

Martin Writes that “Trustees By Law can only approve balanced budgets and Sierra’s Board has always done so”. Apparently, Scott Leslie, Jerry Simmons and Aaron Klien were smoking some hippee lettuce out behind the auditorium before closed session – because from 2002-2004 the college spent $850,000 more than it took in. I guess Martin thinks that borrowing from the reserves to cover shortfalls balances the budget.

Martin Wrote that “To meet short term deficits, trustees may choose to use either reserve balances or make transfers from other funds to achieve balance with equal integrity.” This is called deficit spending – Michael Dukakis was the last to campign on such a platform! Again, I harken back to the 2002-2004 budgets of the College, apparently Massachusetts Econimics dictated that an $850,000 deficit was actually a balanced budget.

Martin Wrote that “Sierra College is presently using a definition of ‘balanced budget’ not evidently used by another California Community College.” GASP – using actual numbers!? The State of California is doing such a great job with its’ budget – I guess that is Martin’s vision!?

Martin Wrote that “Sierra College’s finances have been well managed at least since 1995… the financial condition of the school has in fact worsened since 2004.”

You have got to be kidding me! $2 Million in new surpluses are worse? Growning Reserves from $6 Million to $8.1 Million in anticipation of an economic slowdown and declining enrollment is excellent fiscal managment.

Add to this that Martin voted for the last three budgets and was the lone no vote against adopting a policy of no deficit spending – it suggests that his position paper was orwellian.

For the clincher – Martin Wrote “Placer County (is) virtually the only populous county in the state which has not supported its’ college with the passage of a Prop 39 bond issue.”

Measure E was $394 million and was stuffed with items that did not directly benefit the college and had it passed – the maintenance on those buildings would have broken the budget.

Martin thinks raising taxes in the face of an economic slowdown is good for the community – Jimmy Carter did that in the late 1970’s with disasterous results.

The irony here is that Martin voted for the budgets and fiscal policies he is now criticizing.

He is advocating spending like drunken sailors and wants a 1/2 Billion Dollar Bond now, irregardless of the economy.

This is why Bill Martin earns the King-Kong Kool Aid Award – the Bill Martin Award for Lunacy in Government.

Save Sierra College from Bill Martin.

The Kool-Aid Award goes to... Health Net Insurance Company

Posted by Aaron Park on February 24, 2008 at 06:39 PM

Here is a Kool-Aid award dedicated to true idiocy.

It would seem from their behavior that Health Net wants to usher in the world of socialized medicine!

This attached article details how Health Net got fined $9 million for canceling a policy midway through a policyholder’s cancer treatment.

According to the article LINKED HERE, the ridiculous behavior of Health Net did not stop nor end there.

The award came a day after the Los Angeles city attorney sued Health Net, claiming it illegally canceled the coverage of about 1,600 patients. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo also said the company illegally ran an incentive program in which it paid bonuses to an administrator for meeting targets of policy cancelations.

Health Net acknowledged that such a program existed in 2002 and 2003 but was subsequently scrapped.

Based on the way Health Net behaves, I’d bet someone who ended up in the hospital after drinking the Kool-Aid would get their policy canceled by Health Net while being treated.

As an insurance agent – this is particularly troubling because I am told by my company reps that their company acts in good faith and has excellent claims management.

It is apparent that California Health Insurance companies are stupid and they must want people to get so fed up with them that they decide to let Arnold and his fellow Democrats take the system over.

When companies have incentives for canceling policies and also make life hell on applicants (I know from personal experience with numerous clients), they deserve to have themselves steamrolled by the do-gooder Liberals in government.

For being pathetically stupid and getting fined once again – this Jug’s for you Health Net!

And the first Kool-Aid Award of 2008 goes to...

Say it ain’t so!? This blogger has been caught with the telltale stains of the “Red” flavored Kool-Aid in the corners of my mouth.

What was I thinking staying loyal to someone everyone knew months ago was going to retire?

(64 Ounces Water)

I should have seen the writing on the wall – or maybe it was the fact that the jug o’ kenny was sitting on the computer table next to me as I was typing posts on behalf of the congressman?

(1 cup sugar)

Was I delusional looking at the 4th lane on I-80 and the new Sierra College interchange, thinking they were both a good thing? Or would I have awaken to the reality that Earmarks are the new evil had I not been chugging Kool-Aid by the gallon?

(riiiiip – there goes the Cherry Kool-Aid mix into the pitcher)

Should I have jumped ship and applauded all those who publicaly called on Doolittle to retire?

(insert wooden spoon to mix)

Was I crazy for critizing Ted Gaines and for drawing the Ire of the Eric Egland Crowd? Was it worth the heartburn?

(insert 10 shots Jack Daniels)

Maybe it was the fact that Ron Rogers is a cult leader and I was one of his dupes – blindly rushing to my computer to spread the gospel in spite of the reality I refused to acknowledge?

(time to get the 32-oz raider’s mug with some ice)

As I sit here drinking my Doolittle Kool-Aid one last time, I will admit that I made a decision to support the Congressman to the bitter end. Now I owe Jeff Flint lunch, Allan Bartlett and Adam S. a steak dinner…

Did that mean ignoring the obvious? Apparently, so…

And that means this Jug’s for me. Unbelievable…

The 2007 Kool-Aid Award of the year goes to...

OOOOOOH YEAH!!! The Sacramento Bee has been on a 27-year jihad to get Congressman Doolittle every since he defeated liberal icon Al Rhodda in 1980 for State Senate.

This year has been no exception as the Sacramento Bee has once again taking it upon themselves to be the standard bearers of the ABD caucus. The BHE machine looks to the vaunted Sacramento Bee for inspiration.

The recent behavior of the Sacramento Bee has vaulted them ahead of any individual or consultant into first place in the 2007 King Kong 55-Gallon drum o’Kenny. The Bee has earned the distinction of supplying the Democrat Central Committees of every county in the 4th CD with a delusional hope of the Tin Soldier riding in on his peace horse and unseating our Congressman.

The behavior I reference is a hard-hitting letter from retired State Senator Tim Leslie that calls the Justice Department on the carpet over their attempted lynching of the Congressman. The Bee did not print a story on the letter and buried a small blurb on-line.

For the complete text of the Senator Leslie letter – click here

Had Eric Kerry-Egland written a letter asking for the Justice department to indict Doolittle, the Bee would have had it front page.

We already know that the Bee has mentioned the abramof investigation more than 100 times in their paper this year. In addition, they have also been careful to remove John Doolittle’s name from any positive stories about funding the new folsom dam bridge or I-80 congestion relief… all the while entertaining malcontents who rail on earmarks.

For having a journalistic publication that is a walking McScam-Feingold violation and for failing to register as a 527, the Sacramento Bee is this years denison of the 55-Gallon drum o’Kenny. Spread the joy to the Democrat Central Committees while you’re at it!

The Kool-Aid Award 9/23/2007 goes to...

1st Runner-Up: Rex Archer…

The Unions spend $400,000 trying to get you elected over Dan Logue and you lose. Then you get banned 2/23/2007 from Plums Lake “dot” info due to misinformation and you get banned from the Yuba Appeal-Democrat’s Yuba Highlands blog page.

Why? misinformation and lies… what do you do for an encore?

You try to recall Dan Logue! I’d offer the “Kenny” to Archer, but Archer has been imbibing for a long time.

The only people that could trump Rex Archer this week are those who have decided to team up with him!

Johnson-Clark Associates! Like in so many campaigns before, they have pre-arranged a load of out-of-district endorsements that mean very little. They start parceling them out and when this blogger and others point out that while Mike DuVall, Mimi Walters and the Stricklands are good legislators… their endorsements matter little in a Northern California regional race.

Logue introduces Tim Leslie and Rico Oller who still poll very highly in Northern California and Johnson-Clark says through anonymous commenters that they are has-beens! JCA then responds with still more out of district endorsements.

When those endorsements stop working, you start attacking Dan Logue for defending property rights and enlist Kenny award runner-up Rex Archer to foment a recall against your opponent. Archer has been a long-time vassal of the unions and enviros… nice job of running a Republican’s campaign for office.

(blogger’s note: at least Tim Clark posted comments under his own name – I’ll credit him for that)

Given the way Horne’s campaign is being run, you have to wonder if she is a Republican! I wonder what the people in Nevada County think about all of this!? (Nevada is Horne’s home County)

This jug’s for you, Johnson-Clark Associates!
