Effigy of Sarah Palin hanging by a noose creates uproar in West Hollywood

Posted by "Pat Buchanan, Jr." on October 29, 2008 at 02:37 PM

Does anyone know Sheriff Lee Baca? If so, you want to find out why an effigy hanging of Gov. Palin is allowed but one of Sen. Obama might constitute a “hate crime” investigation? I guess hate crimes against whites is allowed? Or maybe hate crimes just don’t apply to whites even thought one is allowed to hate whites. Can someone explain this to me?

Effigy of Sarah Palin hanging by a noose creates uproar in West Hollywood

A West Hollywood Halloween display showing a likeness of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin hanging by a noose has caused a furor among some residents who reported it as a hate crime, authorities said Monday.

But Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said the mannequin sporting a beehive hairdo, glasses and a red coat does not rise to the level of a hate crime because it was part of a Halloween display.

“I’m not defending this; I’m not criticizing it. It doesn’t rise to the level of hate crime,” said Steve Whitmore, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, who said he went out to the house himself to look at the display this morning.

“Now, if there was a crime against bad taste . . . “

Sgt. Kristin Aloma of the Sheriff’s Department’s West Hollywood station said that since Sunday she had received five to 10 calls from residents offended by the display. Officials are monitoring the house to make sure the situation doesn’t get out of hand, she said.

West Hollywood Mayor Jeffrey Prang said although he recognizes residents’ right to free speech, he found the display problematic and felt it should be removed.

“While these residents have the legal right to display Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin in effigy, I strongly oppose political speech that references violence—real or perceived,” Prang said in a statement. “I urge these residents to take down their display and find more constructive ways to express their opinion.”

Whitmore said that potential hate crimes are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If the same display had been made of a Barack Obama like doll, for example, authorities would have to evaluate it independently, Whitmore said.

“That adds a whole other social, historical hate aspect to the display, and that is embedded in the consciousness of the country,” he said, adding he’s not sure whether it would be a hate crime. “It would be ill-advised of anybody to speculate on that.”

ChadMichael Morrisette, who lives in the house, told a local TV news crew that cars and buses have been stopping near his home and that people have been snapping photos of the Halloween display.

The home’s decorations also feature a doll of John McCain surrounded by decorative flames in the chimney, and other more typical Halloween items, such as skeletons and spider webs.

L.A. blocks new fast-food outlets from poor areas

Posted by "Pat Buchanan, Jr." on July 29, 2008 at 06:22 PM

I wonder if they offer drive-thru service in the nanny state.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The Los Angeles City Council has approved a one-year moratorium on new fast-food restaurants in a low-income area of the city.

The moratorium unanimously approved Tuesday is a bid to attract restaurants that offer healthier food choices to residents in a 32-square-mile area of South Los Angeles.

Councilwoman Jan Perry says residents at five public meetings expressed concern with the proliferation of fast-food outlets in the community plagued by above-average rates of obesity.

Nearly three-quarters of the restaurants in South L.A. are fast-food outlets. That’s a higher percentage than other parts of the city but the restaurant industry says the moratorium won’t help bring in alternatives.

New Cars in California Must Display Global Warming Score

Posted by "Pat Buchanan, Jr." on July 07, 2008 at 08:39 PM

“California is making it mandatory for cars to be labeled with global warming scores, figures that take into account emissions from vehicle use and fuel production.

The law requiring the labels goes into effect at the start of next year for all 2009 model cars, though its expected the labels will be popping up on cars in the coming months.”

Follow Up and Correction on Luis Buhler Story

Posted by Aaron Park on May 14, 2008 at 01:14 PM

I was contacted by Luis today, after an e-mail exchange – a few corrections are in order.

The primary source for the previous post now denies what they told myself and Angela whose e-mail I cut and posted in the previous post.

1.) Mr. Buhler denies having refered to other Republicans in a derogatory manner. I tend to agree with him as I served with him on the CRP Rules Committee and I have never known him to be foul and rude.

2.) Elsie Guffler is running for the 19th AD, not the 9th Congressional. (I knew this, but fouled up the original post)

3.) The Primary opponent to Elsie Guffler is the former Executive Diector of the San Mateo County GOP. I did confirm that the San Mateo County GOP Committee is in bad shape. (Bankrupt)

4.) Mr. Buhler has also indicated to me that he had no hand in recruiting the Primary opponent that Gufflew drew. I tend to agree with him as the McCain campaign has his hands rather full. If the GOP can pull 25-30% out of that area, McCain can win CA!

I am still wondering why that guy decided to run against Elsie instead of for the Senate Seat or the Congress Seat. Those districts out there rarely have Republican contestants.

Ose tries to pin carpetbagger label on McClintock

Story appeared in MAIN NEWS section, Page A4

Over the next seven weeks, the congressional campaign of Doug Ose will hammer opponent Tom McClintock as a carpetbagging state senator from Southern California.

But the truth is, McClintock has lived with his family in the greater Sacramento area for more than 10 years while representing a Ventura, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles county seat – enabled by loose state laws that allow legislators to make their homes hundreds of miles from the districts they represent.

Under federal law, both McClintock and Ose are eligible for the 4th Congressional District seat, despite the fact that neither has made his home there. Congressional candidates must only reside in the state in which they are running, be at least 25 years old and have been a U.S. citizen for seven years.

“I’ve always interpreted my responsibility as a state legislator to cast my votes in the interest of the entire state,” McClintock said. “I believe that every congressman has the responsibility to cast his or her vote in the best interest of the United States.”

To me, this is a none issue. See the full article here.

California Assembly to Consider Severe Restrictions on Ammunition Sales!

Posted by "Pat Buchanan, Jr." on March 30, 2008 at 11:44 AM

OPPOSE AB2062

On Tuesday, April 8, the Assembly Public Safety Committee will consider legislation that would require gun owners to obtain a “permit-to-purchase” before buying handgun ammunition.

Introduced by State Assembly Member Kevin De Leon (D-45), Assembly Bill 2062 puts ammunition sales in the crosshairs. AB2062 would require that law-abiding gun owners obtain a permit to buy handgun ammunition and would impose severe restrictions on the private transfers of handgun ammunition. Applicants for a “permit-to-purchase” would be required to submit to a background check, pay a $35 fee, and wait as long as 30 days to receive the permit.

Under AB2062, it would be unlawful to privately transfer more than 50 rounds of ammunition per month, even between family and friends, unless you are registered as a “handgun ammunition vendor” in the Department of Justice’s database. Ammunition retailers would have to be licensed and store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers. The bill would also require vendors to keep a record of the transaction including the ammunition buyer’s name, driver’s license, the quantity, caliber and type of ammunition purchased, and right thumbprint, which would be submitted to the Department of Justice or the number of his handgun ammunition purchase permit. Vendors would be required to contact the purchase permit database, to verify the validity of a permit before completing a sale. All ammunition sales in the State of California would be subject to a $3 per transaction tax. Lastly, mail order ammunition sales would be prohibited. Any violator of AB2062 would be subject to civil fines.

Since it began to give credit ratings to nations in 1917, Moody’s has rated the United Statesw triple-A. U.S. Treasury bonds have been seen as the most secure investment on earth. When crises erupt, nervous money seeks out the world’s great safe harbor, the United States. That reputation is now in peril.

Last week, Moody’s warned that if the United States fails to rein in the soaring cost of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, the nation’s credit rating will be down-graded within a decade.

California has already hit the wall. With an economy as large as a G-8 nation, the Golden State is looking at a $14 billion deficit in 2009 and a $3 billion shortfall in 2008. Gov. Schwarzenegger has called for slashing prison staff by 6,000, including 2,000 guards, early release of 22,000 inmates, closing four dozen state parks and a 10 percent across-the-board cut in all state agencies. The Democratic legislature is demanding tax hikes, which would drive more taxpayers back over the mountains whence their fathers came.

NRA Wins Big in California State Court of Appeals

Posted by "Pat Buchanan, Jr." on January 12, 2008 at 04:00 PM

This is great news for our country and for our Second Amendment rights! The NRA is an important institution and we as Conservatives need to support this group. Everyone needs to renew their membership today!

San Francisco Gun Ban Ruled Null and Void

Fairfax, VA – The California State Court of Appeals announced today their decision to overturn one of the most restrictive gun bans in the country, following a legal battle by attorneys for the National Rifle Association (NRA) and a previous court order against the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
“Today’s decision by the California State Court of Appeals is a big win for the law-abiding citizens and NRA Members of San Francisco,” declared Chris W. Cox, NRA’s chief lobbyist.

In 2005, NRA sought an injunction against the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to prevent them from enacting one of the nation’s most restrictive gun bans. NRA won the injunction, but the City’s mayor and Board of Supervisors ignored the court order and approved a set of penalties, including a $1,000 fine and a jail term of between 90 days and six months, for city residents who own firearms for lawful purposes in their own homes.
“We promised our California NRA members in 2005 that we would fight any gun ban instituted by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and we haven’t given up that fight,” continued Cox. “Today we see our second win for the Second Amendment against the San Francisco gun ban. We beat them once in court and the City’s attorney appealed based on his personal disagreement with the court’s first decision to overturn the ban. Now we’ve beaten them again. The California State Court of Appeals has upheld the state preemption law.”

Today’s decision came in the form of a 3-0 opinion in favor of the lower court ruling overturning the gun ban.
“This decision is a thoughtful and well-reasoned legal opinion,” concluded Cox. “I’d like to thank our approximately 4 million members, including the hundreds of thousands of members in California, for their continued commitment to protecting our cherished freedoms.”

nra

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America’s oldest civil rights and sportsmen’s group. Four million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights and to advocate enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation’s leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the military.

Placer County Republican Party Positions on Statewide Ballot Measures

Posted by Aaron Park on January 02, 2008 at 08:16 PM

Proposition 91– Yes
(This more firmly dedicates gasoline sales taxes to transportation projects. This is necessary because the legislature has exploited the loopholes in Prop 42 every year to continue to squander our gas tax money.)

Proposition 92 – No
(This is “ballot box budgeting” at its worst. It would irresponsibly reduce community college tuition, regardless of need, while permanently increasing taxpayer subsidies.)

Proposition 93 – No!
(This is phony term limits reform designed to keep Democrat leaders in office longer. Whether you support term limits or hate them, this proposition is a fraud and it should be defeated.)

Proposition 94 – Yes
(This referendum would ratify the compact with the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Mission Indians. Indian gaming has been terrible for California , but defeating this compact will not solve that problem or improve things in any way. This compact is the best possible deal that taxpayers can get out of the current Legislature. Union thugs oppose this compact because it does not achieve their goal of forcing casino workers to pay union dues without their consent. The issue here is union politics, not Indian gaming.)

Proposition 95 – Yes
(This referendum would ratify the compact with the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.

Proposition 96 – Yes
(This referendum would ratify the compact with the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation.

Proposition 97 – Yes

Behind the Meltdown: Lincoln's boom fades out

Betting on boom left town with huge bill

By Dale Kasler, Jim Wasserman and Phillip Reese SacBee

This is a great article and shows the greed and lengths people will go in order to live the “good life.” It also shows why you should NEVER vote for a school bond. Just K-12 accounts for 50% of the CA budget and then you have those ridiculous Mello Roos bonds on top of that, and these people have the guts to ask for MORE????? And voters are giving them more? What a waste! No wonder so many people moved out of this state and are starting to move out again. These “leaders” should have to pay these bonds back themselves. $190 MILLION in the hole? Are you kidding me? Who was asleep at the wheel while all this spending going on? So the taxpayers are going to be expected to pay for the housing bust and now they’re going to ask us to bail out these worthless government leaders who spent outlandish amounts of money “to keep up with Rocklin and Roseville.” You know what, if you want to be like Roseville and Rocklin so badly than move there! This spending would make the drunken sailors in Washington DC blush. I want answers!!!

“Article:”http://www.sacbee.com/103/story/593143.html

But unlike other communities, Lincoln has an additional bill to pay, and it’s a whopper: nearly $190 million in debt facing its tiny school district, the result of an ambitious construction program undermined by a housing market gone soft. The district, Western Placer Unified, has been forced to postpone additional schools, including an eagerly awaited high school to serve the families that flocked to the Twelve Bridges development.

The Marones have put their house up for sale, too, so they can move to a rural setting in Loomis. They’re braced for a loss: The house cost them $529,000, plus $130,000 on a backyard pond and other upgrades. They’ve listed it for $525,000.

Western Placer is deeply in debt. It owes nearly $190 million, including interest, through 2036. Cash reserves will be sufficient the next few years, but starting in 2011 it will face shortfalls of $3 million to $4 million a year through 2024, said Dominico, the consultant working with the district.

She said the district is mulling a plan to stretch out the debt to 2047. That will reduce each year’s payment enough to get Western Placer through the lean times. But it will cost about $70 million in extra interest over time, she said.

Western Placer spent its money on things like state-of-the-art science and computer labs, art facilities, even skylights.

Prospects for overhauling health care in state look poorer

Tom Chorneau, SF Chronicle Sacramento Bureau

(12-05) 04:00 PST Sacramento—An expected vote on legislation overhauling California’s $170 billion health care system has been postponed indefinitely, as Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and legislative leaders disagree on elements of the plan from tax subsidies to insurance reform.

Good news to those of us who know “free” healthcare will be more expensive and more cumbersome than what we have today.

3 Judges to decide if 240 Convicts will be released into Placer County

Posted by Aaron Park on November 29, 2007 at 04:25 PM

Take heart – Sacramento stands to get 1,680 of their very own.

Out of the minds of the same liberals who think sending convicted child molesters to group homes in residential neighborhoods – comes a three judge panel that has decided that they know better than us how criminals should be handled.

This panel is to decide how to enforce an absurd prision population cap law that may or may not really exist.

To excerpt the site:

Right now, the latest figures show that there are approximately 170,000 prisoners serving time behind bars in California’s prisons. It is expected that the courts will rule that only 130,000 prisoners can be provided with constitutionally adequate health and mental health services in our current prison facilities.

This means that 40,000 prisoners could soon be released if the federal courts follow through with their threat and impose a population cap.

Democrats hate the three strikes law so bad that they have unified to stop reform until being forced to this year – but only after they knew a court could force the release of some 40,000 felons back on the streets.

If Democrats are successful in getting a ruling from the court ordering the release of criminals, they have effectively destroyed three strikes – because the ruling would cap the prison population and they (the Dems) have successfully thwarted any attempts to build more prisons or to allow private comapnies to compete with the Prison Guards Union.

The Republican Caucus has made a website highlighting the danger Democrats have put us in so they can keep the money flowing in from the Prison Guards.

Mosquito Tax Redux Coming soon to Placer County? $52 Road Parcel Tax to hit LA County

Posted by Aaron Park on November 29, 2007 at 04:03 PM

File this one under the category of things that make you go hmmm…

In LA County, they are going to float a $52 per parcel, parcel tax for Road Construction.

How much forced Mass Transit is in this measure? How much union payoff money is in there? How much will get WASTED on bogus environmental impact reports?

These are questions you have to ask anytime a Bond, Parcel Tax, Breathing Tax, Sales Tax, Benefit Assessment or any other form of institutional robbery is proposed…

In Placer recently, the Mosquito abatement district used a Prop 218 benefit assessment to sneak a parcel tax through on the whole county. Because of the way they did it, its’ passage was assured because those who were going to get the money for the projects had the most votes.

In LA County – the following article details the beginnings of a movement to add another tax to the bills of property owners… LINK

Could this be how the 1/2 cent sales tax gets resurrected?

GOP's California ballot plan rakes in cash

“Backers of a California ballot initiative that would drastically increase Republican chances of retaining the White House in 2008 have raised $1.2 million, including $316,000 in eight days this month — and supporters say they’re on pace to qualify for the vote in June.”

“California Counts’ initiative would divide the state’s 55 electoral votes proportionally, rather than using the current winner-take-all format.”

“That would be a huge boon to the eventual Republican presidential nominee, since the GOP has little chance of carrying California, which has voted Democratic in the past four presidential elections.”

This Thanksgiving, as with all Thanksgivings we should reflect on what we are thankful for.

I am thankful that another election cycle has given me clarity about why we do what we do in the Placer CRA. We are reminded of the excellent leadership of our Congressman and the integrity we have in standing by him.

I am thankful that opportunism has only consumed precious few of our ranks and in the end a good man will be vindicated.

I am thankful to be celebrating my second Thanksgiving as a married man. My wife is wonderful and incredible. She has gotten quite a baptism by fire into politics. She has been an absolute rock by my side.

I am thankful for having a successful business that continues to grow.

I am thankful that my entire family is close by.

I am thankful that my true friends both personal and political continue to stay as such.

I am thankful that I live in the USA, the greatest country on God’s Green Earth.

As I’ve stated since the first day Arnie declared to run for Gov and set the recall in overdrive, he continues to be an asset for the CA GOP.

“In doing so, he has surpassed Gray Davis, the governor he ousted four years ago in a recall election that focused in large part on Davis’ seemingly incessant fundraising.”

The Auburn Sentinel Weighs in on Last Weekend's CRA Convention

Posted by Aaron Park on November 16, 2007 at 01:06 PM

The Auburn Sentinel article is linked here

ROUNDABOUT – Rep. Doolittle did indeed receive a warm welcome when he stood up to address last weekend’s state convention of the California Republican Assembly, an ultra-conservative outfit that has backed him every race he’s ever been in and, I presume, will again if he stays with his re-election plans for next year. The congressman was introduced by T. Rico Oller, the former state legislator whose dirty tricks helped him win an Assembly seat over Kirk Uhler in 1996 and who is being touted in some quarters as a possible congressional candidate in the event Doolittle changes his mind (or has it changed for him by the U.S. Justice Department) and doesn’t run again. Yeah, I know, Oller lives down in Calaveras County, which is not in the 4th C.D., but this is no barrier to declaring for a congressional seat (you need only be a state resident to run). Ted Gaines was also in attendance as was Eric Egland, the Air Force reservist who, like Mike Holmes, is an announced candidate for the GOP congressional nomination, with or without JTD on the ballot. Holmes was nowhere in sight; the California Republican Assembly and he don’t see eye to eye on a number of matters. The Bee’s Peter Hecht gave Roseville’s Aaron Park, the best blogger conservative Republicans ever fielded in this neck of the woods, credit for some of the convention’s best lines. He quoted Park as saying that Doolittle is supported by “an overwhelming number of (4th C.D.) city council members and all members of the Legislature not named Ted Gaines.” As for Egland, Park said he’s trying to “run to the right of Doolittle and there’s very little real estate there.”

Sue Horne's Leadership - Administrative Pay Raise While Revenues Drop

Posted by Aaron Park on November 12, 2007 at 09:57 PM

This fiscal management style sounds a lot like Arnold’s budgets.

While the Nevada County Union missed the significance of the hastily assembled self-incriminating resolution from the Nevada County Board of supervisors… Their editorial board did not miss the significance of their big-spending ways.

Horne voted yes and abdicated leadership once again.

By the Union editorial board
12:01 a.m. PT Nov 8, 2007

We have to wonder about the timing of Tuesday’s decision by the Nevada County Board of Supervisors to give a 17 percent pay raise to County Executive Officer Rick Haffey, boosting his annual salary to $160,000. Next July, his salary could increase again – to $168,000.

Our concern is not so much whether the county’s highest ranking worker deserves to earn more money, but the message that such a large pay hike sends to taxpayers struggling to make ends meet amid rising gasoline, energy, water, sewer, property taxes and other fundamental costs of living. All while many of us watch the value of our homes – often the only real equity many of us have – continue to slide.

Supervisors approved Haffey’s raise one day after Gov. Arnold Schwartzenegger ordered 10 percent expense reductions to agencies statewide and a day before a 360-point drop in the Dow Jones industrial average, amid ongoing worries of a continued housing slump and dip in consumer confidence.

Oil prices are edging toward a record $100 a barrel, and the Chicago Board Options Exchange’s volatility index, often known as the “fear index,” spiked 24 percent.

“A lot of the bad stuff is known; what the markets are worried about is the unknown,” David Darst, a chief investment strategist for Morgan Stanley, told the Associated Press.

Moreover, we wonder about the continued logic that municipalities – including Grass Valley and Nevada City, as well as the county – use to justify these significant pay adjustments. The board rationalized the pay hike by suggesting it was needed to “stay competitive” with neighboring counties.

Blogger’s Note -except when it comes to supporting Beale AFB

We have no doubt Haffey’s new salary will be used down the road to help some “neighboring” county manager justify a raise, and the beat will continue.

Supervisors also considered Grass Valley’s trouble in finding a permanent replacement for its city administrator because the pay is low compared to comparable government jobs. Maybe the problem in Grass Valley is the job – not the pay. The city faces myriad challenges inherited from the previous administration.

Blogger’s note – Horne has done nothing to address this situation

The county supervisors’ logic fails to test the free market if Haffey decided he could no longer work for the $137,000 he was already earning. Given today’s economy and concerns that we may be headed into a recession, we’d guess there would be some pretty good candidates interested in a job that paid $137,000 per year with some pretty good benefits.

Supervisors said they factored in the prospect of a worsening economy and a probable dip in property tax revenues (many have recently wondered why their property tax bills increased when their home values, in most cases, declined), but the thought of losing Haffey outweighed those concerns.

Blogger’s note: Maybe Arnold will endorse Horne so he has a Dickerson clone to vote for his budgets

A more prudent approach might have been to give Haffey a 5 percent pay hike now, and then, if the county financial picture were to remain as rosy as supervisors suggest, give him another 5 percent in six months or so. In his book, “Where Have All the Leaders Gone?” businessman Lee Iacocca gripes about the sorry state of leadership in America today. To Iacocca and others, leadership also means setting an example for others.

Yours Truly Quoted in the Bee...

Posted by Aaron Park on November 11, 2007 at 04:01 PM

Here’s the article

The Sacramento Bee came to the CRA convention to cover what ended up being a pretty benign Luncheon featuring John Doolittle.

Peter Hecht interviewed yours truly and decided to give me a couple of soundbytes in the Article…

Convention attendee Aaron Park, a Roseville resident and conservative blogger, said Doolitttle is supported regionally by an “overwhelming number of (district) city council members and all members of the Legislature not named Ted Gaines.”

And as upstart challenger Egland showed up to compete for conservative support, Park quipped: “Egland is trying to run to the right of Doolittle. There’s very little real estate there.”

Thank you Peter Hecht – many at the CRA Convention told me that they liked Doolittle’s presentation and it showed them why the CRA has stood with Doolittle for years.

CRA Convention - Romney is Endorsed!

Posted by Aaron Park on November 11, 2007 at 03:55 PM

In a stunning development on the second ballot, Mitt Romney was endorsed by the CRA.

This is a major COUP for Romney and should significantly bolster his campaign in California.

In other news, the CRA upheld the Vote yes on the Indian Gaming compacts. This is also a major victory as the unions are behind the referendum attempt to kill them. When the referrenda get Proposition numbers, remember to support the four non-union tribes against the Union attempt to force them to accept union labor against their will.

In a bit of inside baseball – sitting CRP National Committeeman Tim Morgan announced that he is running for re-election yesterday.

Morgan was able to hold off an attempt by fromer CRP Chairmen Shawn Steel to gain a CRA endorsement to run against him.

11 of 18 in SD burn unit are illegal immigrants

Posted by "Pat Buchanan, Jr." on October 31, 2007 at 09:53 PM

So, your candidate for President is soft on immigration, or even fought for safe haven cities to house them. Or, you just don’t care about the issue.

And don’t worry, you won’t have to pay for this hospital treatment. No. Your kids and grandkids will. I hope you taught them to save their pennys.

“The fact that 11 of the 18 wildfire victims lying in UCSD Medical Center’s burn unit are illegal immigrants with no apparent health coverage highlights the daunting financial challenge hospitals face in providing long-term, intensive care for all those who need it.”

“Last year, the average cost of treating a burn patient at UCSD was $45,000 for an average 15-day stay.”

Find out how much your grand kids will be paying here.

Interesting Comment fom the other Blog... Re: Kranz Effect

Posted by Aaron Park on October 28, 2007 at 06:44 PM

On the Red County Placer Blog, I cross posted the Saturday commentary about the Kranz effect.

The only response that has come from the Gaines camp is an anonymous commenter who wrote -

“Correction Aaron – you can have no idea how much Gaines has raised because federal election law does not require it to be reported until he actually becomes a candidate. He could have raised $75 or $75,000.”

I wrote the following comment in response -

Correction FEC, 49er, Outed, more scandal too… (I referenced the multiple names the same commenter has used on that other blog)

You still have to report a PAC / committee with more than $1000 in it. It may well be that you don’t until 12/31.

Blogger’s note – The Placer CRA has a PAC that we have to file every six months

I’d have also heard if Gaines has had any federal fundraisers as well. Since I know you know who I am and what my connections are as I am pretty sure of your real identity as well…

Here’s the deal – whatever hairs you want to split with me in an attempt to invalidate my post… you dodge the real point. Gaines underestimated the solidarity of support behind John Doolittle.

Others looking at the 9/30 reports as a rallying point for the ABD crowd are going to be disappointed once those aforementioned Doolittle supporters start writing out those checks.

If Gaines had raised any significant amount of money, he’d have reported it to the Sacramento Bee’s editorial board since he started his exploratory committee there.

But you knew that, too.

I’d expect better than an anonymous comment from someone calling themself “FEC” or whatever name you choose the next time you comment.

Ted deserves better, like supporters who will stand up and be counted.

Frankly – I’d expect better from Ted Gaines as well. Members / relatives of His staff have been going after this blogger anonymously on the other blog.

A once friendly relationship is now gone, because I have dared to stand behind John Doolittle for the one of the same reasons why I have been going after Kerry-Egland… betrayal.

I have restrained myself for several months now while this circus has been ensuing. I have hoped and prayed for Gaines to do the right thing and run for re-election to the Assembly.

Has Ted forgotten that he is in the Assembly because of John Doolittle!? What’s worse for me personally is that my brother and myself were instrumental in securing a CRA endorsement for Ted over RICO OLLER!

What Ted Gaines has done is dead wrong. It is the same kind of Blood-in-the-water opportunism that decimates the Republican farm team time and again. It is also Un-Christian, when your brother is wounded you stand by him and help him out.

Unbelievable.

Saturday Commentary - The Kranz Effect

Posted by Aaron Park on October 27, 2007 at 04:20 PM

By now, readers of this Blog, other Placer County Blogs and the local media all are aware of the celebrated resolution brought by Placer County Supervisor Bruce Kranz to the Placer GOP Central Committee.

The blogger was presented with evidence from friends who work in the capitol that Ted Gaines was cheerfully proclaiming that he had 18 votes to kill the resolution in the days leading up. The ABD caucus jumped on this, thinking it was another sign of weakening support for Doolittle.

It is not that simple. This blogger was blamed by several for that resolution getting into the media and the ensuing circus. I did not leak the resolution not did I post it anywhere – in retrospect, the effect of that resolution getting out to the press was that many on the committee lost their desire to support that resolution. So in that regard, Ted Gaines got where he wanted – the resolution died.

I think Ted Gaines has noted that the sentiments of the Central Committee were behind that resolution. The only opposition I ever heard to it by Central Committee Members was the personal nature they felt came off from the way Kranz wrote it.

In the days since the celebrated resolution was “postponed indefinitely”, the effects of the resolution have been quite telling…

There were two events in Placer County this week, a “unity event” in Sun City on Monday (10/22) and a Crab Feed last night (Friday 10/26).

There were several departures from the past norms -

1) Egland was absent on Monday night and left early on Friday. Things he has never been known to do before – people have told me for several months now that Egland has been everywhere.

2) Gaines never used to bring a staffer with him to events in the past. Monday night, he was in attendance with two staff.

2a) Friday night, Gaines had bought a table at the Placer GOP Crab Feed but came for a few minutes and left, leaving his table empty. He had a staffer with him.

3) I have been over to the Placer GOP HQ a couple times since the fateful Central Committee meeting. Gaines’ office is next door and there is little activity according to people I have talked to.

The effect of the Kranz resolution is that it brought the anger of some and the disappointment of the rest of John Doolittle’s base to the forefront. Kranz had the guts to do what everyone else only talked about.

If Ted Gaines Congressional campaign was gaining traction, where was the money in his committee 9/30? Why have there been no Gaines for Congress fundraisers? The ABD caucus is making a big fuss over JTD only raising $55,000 in the 3rd quarter 2007, while ignoring Gaines’ $0.

If Egland’s campaign was doing so well – why did his team see fit to go after this blogger with all the venom usually associated for a smear campaign against an opponent?

They have still avoided answering any questions and have yet to demonstrate a campaign based on anything but being a Veteran and pointing the finger at Doolittle. (Heck, Charlie Brown did the same thing in 2006, could Egland be attempting to plagiarize that, too?)

While Gaines has gone completely dark, leaving events quickly and early, Eric Hogue is mounting an upstart Assembly campaign. Has Gaines made enough people mad that he is vulnerable to a primary opponent?

Gaines was quoted in the Sacramento Bee saying that John Doolittle has “lost his ability to lead”. Someone forgot to send the memo to John Doolittle’s base.

Bruce Kranz’ resolution may have been postponed by the Central Committee, but its’ effects were impossible to postpone.

Team Egland Update - Plagerism! (So much for restoring ethics)

Posted by Aaron Park on October 24, 2007 at 09:02 AM

“I have seen first hand how failures in congressional ethics and leadership have corrupted our government and made our troops, our economy, and our nation more vulnerable.” – from Kerry-Egland’s opening campaign statement. (after he attacked Doolittle publically over a since-retracted Sacramento Bee article.)

The local media issued a story today about team Kerry-Egland using content line for line off of the Charlie Brown for Congress Website.

It would certainly appear that Kerry-Egland is angling top become the new candidate for the ABD Caucus as he is trying to buddy up to Charlie Brown during the primary.

First – Kerry-Egland employs the hide behind the uniform tactic, now plagerism. Remember Egland’s opening campaign statement about Ethics?

Brown camp accuses the Egland campaign of plagiarizing Web site

article

Jeff Munson, jmunson@tahoedailytribune.com
October 24, 2007, 6:00 AM

In the age of the World Wide Web, where ethics about original content are being played out from Washington to Main Street to the classroom, there are those who remain watchers of the written word, even if they have their own agenda.

Case in point: A member of the Charlie Brown for Congress campaign said a Brown backer stumbled upon the Eric Egland for Congress Web page and alerted the Brown campaign committee about similar language used in the Brown and Egland campaign Web sites.

The Brown campaign has since called foul and has accused the Eric Egland for Congress campaign of plagiarizing from its Web site.

Brown is a Democrat running for California’s Fourth Congressional seat, which includes El Dorado County. He lost by three points to Congressman John Doolittle in last November’s election. Egland is a Republican and former John Doolittle backer who will run against the veteran congressman in the Republican primary.

The Web page in question, since removed from the Egland for Congress committee, was under the header ‘Host a House Party’ in which the introduction section used the same direct verbiage, but instead of Brown’s name, Egland’s name was in its place.

Brown’s site says: “The ‘Charlie’s Parties’ program is a fun and easy way to help generate resources for Charlie’s campaign, and introduce our next Congressman to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Here’s how it works:”

Egland’s site said: “The ‘Egland House Party’ program is a fun and easy way to help generate resources for Eric’s campaign, and introduce our next Congressman to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Here’s how it works:”

Brown campaign spokesman Todd Stenhouse told the Tahoe Daily Tribune that he was alerted to the similarities and looked at the Egland Web site himself. He said it struck him as odd since he remembers writing the exact words for the Brown site.

“This is a small thing compared to the big issues facing our nation. In the larger context of campaigning on ‘honesty and integrity,’ however, plagiarism flies in the face of the Honor Code practiced at the U.S. Air Force Academy, and would warrant expulsion,” Stenhouse said. “On issues like defending America, and exemplifying the honor and integrity that we should expect from our elected representatives, voters want leaders. And for over 30 years, Charlie Brown has led by example.”

Blogger’s note – See what happens when you give Charlie Brown a free pass? He dosen’t recriprocate!

Brown and Egland are both graduates of the U.S. Air Force Academy. Brown is a retired Lt. Colonel who spent 26 years with the Air Force, according to the Brown Web site. Egland is a counter-terrorism consultant and military intelligence officer who has served around the world, including in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to the Egland Web site.

Egland said he approves everything that goes on the Web site, but wasn’t aware of the duplication until contacted by the Tribune and he has since had the content removed and replaced with words that he himself wrote. Egland also said he would have the person responsible for the Web page contact Brown and apologize.

“It should be noted that house parties are an effective tool used by many campaigns. This was hardly an original idea to either of us,” Egland said. “Nonetheless it is now expressed in words that I wrote. I am flattered that Mr. Brown views me as more of a threat than his previous opponent.”

Blogger’s note – Eric, news flash… you have to win the primary first!

As far as the charge of plagiarism is concerned, Egland said: “It never occurred to me that someone else might have the same thing.”

Stenhouse said the verbiage for the Brown site was written months before Egland announced his candidacy.

Blogger’s Note – The blunders are mounting.

Egland said he has hosted several parties since his Web site was launched “so the generic verbiage seemed perfectly normal, I thought. After it was brought to my attention, I immediately wrote new verbiage and had it changed and have asked the person responsible to apologize to Mr. Brown before the end of the day.”

Saturday Commentary - Unanswered Questions Persist

Posted by Aaron Park on October 20, 2007 at 01:20 PM

This blogger has asked many questions of Eric Egland.

So far the responses have been – to tell me I can not question Egland because he is a veteran. When it was discovered that I am a Veteran, I was not afforded the same deference. (in fact, my service was attacked)

What else does Egland have besides the fact that he served in Iraq? Silence.

Where did his $77,000 come from? (we know $12,000 of it came from an internet thing) Silence.

When questions were raised about political attacks based on a since retracted Bee article. Silence.

When Deborah Johns started spreading malicious rumors about both Ted Gaines and John Doolittle not caring about the families of fallen soldiers… Mark Williams attempts to gin the questions up into “an attack on a Marine mom” and contacts the media to get them to cover his outrage. No coverage because even the local media could see the set-up. Meanwhile, silence from Egland.

When I challenge Egland supporters to provide the Biblical basis for the way he started his campaign and how it is now obvious that he intended to use John Doolittle in 2006 to get his face on TV only to turn on him in 2007, enlisting the support of people who are spreading lies about local electeds, the fact that his campaign is using fundraising lists from past Central Committee events to call on… more silence.

In fact, commenters chide this blogger for supporting the “less than perfect” Doolittle and use that as the basis for why they are allowed to campaign the way they are.

As Egland hides in his bunker, anonymous commenters have come onto this blog in an attempt to deflect the attention from Egland onto this blogger. It seems Egland and his commenters are content to let Charlie Brown get a free ride while people ravage John Doolittle through this blogger.

When my residency, and later a barrage of attacks leveled at personally were not successful in silencing this blogger – then the personal extortion came out. Two people in the top echelons of Egland’s campaign decided to share the personal testimony of how this blogger came to Christian faith with Mark Williams. This is proven by the fact that Mark Williams has e-mailed me hurling insults proudly stating he has something on this blogger.

Now – the same anon commenters are asking about two anonymous sites linked to this blog. Kinda hypocritical, isn’t it? I sign my name to everything I write.

This blogger will not stop asking the questions that need to be asked of Eric Egland. (and Ted Gaines for that matter, both he and Beth have said, “let’s have the discussion” the topic of next week’s Saturday commentary”)

I have attempted to answer people’s questions – a lot more than Egland has.

The ABD caucus complain about Doolittle as if he was singularly responsible for the national debt, yet offer no alternative. Ted Gaines would certainly be interested to know what the ABD caucus thinks… that’s why he opened his exploratory committee.

Here’s the deal – if Egland wants to have a chance of winning, time to start answering some questions. If Egland wants to have a chance of winning, he is going to have to disavow the unChristian actions of some of his supporters.

Oh, Those Rascally Earmarks

Posted by Aaron Park on October 18, 2007 at 09:20 PM

On another blog – Karen England posted the following comment addressed to Ken Campbell:

It’s taken Doolittle’s people a long time to get you the talking points on this one.

Actually, I have had them for about a month. In the interim, the Anti-John Lynch Mob has made far better fodder for posting. (heretofore, referred to as the ABD caucus)

I wanted to talk about how John Doolittle’s earmarks make my pizza deliveries more efficient. After a full day in my office, I go and play “minimum wage pizza delivery boy”.

Thanks to John Doolittle, I can now deliver a pizza from Lincoln to Rocklin in 15 minutes because earmarks over a 6 year period paid for improvements to HWY 65 from Sunset Blvd all the way up to Ferrari Ranch in Lincoln. The most recent earmark allows me to get to downtown Lincoln much easier because there is a second lane by the bridge through to 1st st.

Soon, with the help of some more earmarks, construction will begin on the Highway 65 bypass around Lincoln through to Sheridan around to Wheatland.

Someone working in a Central Roseville location could use improved Hwy 65 interchanges to get around better or if they had to deliver a Pizza to Antelope… the extra Lane on I-80 would allow them to get up to Douglas blvd with much less delay. Every day during my day job when I travel, it is incredible to see the relief that Earmark lane has had on traffic.

Someone working in East Rocklin or Roseville will be able to use the dramatically improved Sierra College Blvd to get around much better. The uphill climb between Bayside Church and the top of the hill has been expanded with money from an Earmark. The interchange once you get to Sierra College and I-80 was funded with an Earmark.

Nevada County has seen improvements all along HWY 49 partially funded with Earmarks. If you have driven HWY 50 up to South Lake Tahoe, John Doolittle’s Earmarks have paid for landslide mitigation, straightening dangerous curves and passing lanes to substantially reduce fatalities on HWY 50.

If Egland was our congressman, 65 would still be one-lane from Roseville all the way to Beale AFB, I-80 would be backed up to Greenback every day and Sierra College would be an overused farm road. HWY 50 would be closed routinely due to accidents and mudslides and HWY 49 would be an unmitigated disaster. Doolittle’s earmarks (which Ted Gaines supported as supervisor, along with Kirk Uhler and others…) have done wonders for our quality of life on the roadways.

Those obsessed with Earmarks have ignored the fact that John Doolittle has pushed to reform the entire system. Acknowledging that fact would be a positive for Doolittle, so the ABD caucus has to ignore that fact. Doolittle uses a broken system to deliver for us in the 4th Congressional District.

Leadership is using the existing system to accomplish what is needed for your district and fighting to reform the broken system you had to use to do so. Ted Gaines does the same thing every day in the state legislature.

Kerry-Egland Campaign / Where's the Beef?

Posted by Aaron Park on October 17, 2007 at 03:52 PM

The Egland campaign has been studiously avoiding the issues.

Egland led off his campaign before Ted Gaines filed his exploratory committee with e-mails stating “I am the only Conservative Christian in this race”.

Kerry-Egland’s opening statement talks about ethics in office, and for his part has been running from questions about his betrayal of the Congressman. Political opportunism comes to mind.

Egland has not answered questions about that fact that he has only recently registered Republican. (In 2005)

People in Kerry-Egland’s campaign are using whatever means they can to discredit John’s supporters to further avoid addressing any issues. Their comments on this blog (anon or otherwise) and e-mails prove that they have determined that a strategy of attempting to destroy John’s supporters personally is the path selected.

Kerry-Egland is consistently hiding behind the uniform to attempt to escape criticism. Kerry-Egland is not the only veteran in this debate.

Kerry-Egland’s supporters must also believe that having a child in Military service gives one free reign to ask a sitting supervisor why none of the local electeds care about the families of fallen soldiers. This is not an extrapolation – this is confirmed by two other witnesses. Ted Gaines, John Doolittle and Krik Uhler were all in the line of fire.

Eric Kerry-Egland is the John Kerry of the 4th Congressional district. His supporters have contacted local media trying to perpetuate the lies being spread by Johns. His supporters have e-mailed this blogger produly stating they have something on me. His supporters are commenting anonymously and when they can no longer debate this blogger… they resort to personal attacks. This is about the 4th CD campaign and not about Aaron Park.

I am still waiting for Eric Egland to stand up like the Christian he says he is and either disavow the behavior of Mark Williams, Deborah Johns and those who are going after Doolittle’s staff/supporters personally or issue a campaign statement justifying why he approves of this kind of behavior.

Egland’s silence not only demonstrates a lack of leadership, but it is a tacit approval of the politics of personal destruction being waged by his team.

Horne on Defensive

Posted by Aaron Park on October 17, 2007 at 10:21 AM

When I got the email from Horne Counsultant, Johnson-Clark Associates… several things popped out to me.

1. When I was interviewed by the Grass Valley Union after a devastating post that lead to the BEALE AFB contraversy the paper did not take this blog as seriously as Horne’s campaign did. The Nevada County supervisors responsible for Nevada being the only County without a resolution of support for the airbase were given 3/4 of the story and I got a soundbite.

Even with that lopsided coverage, Horne must still be reeling from the effects of that post because she scrambled to cover her tracks 28 days after the fact. The resolution bearing her signature incriminates her – admitting that the supervisors recevied the same full breifing as other counties.

2. The commentary cited as a defense by the Horne camp yesterday was written by a Non-Republican.

Many non-Republicans have a tendency to label Republicans as Conservative.

This shows that Horne’s support has come from people who oppose private property rights and now non-Republicans.

3. Horne’s consultant is continuing to play the military card. Note to Johnson-Clark: Beason and Horne aren’t the only veteran/connected people in this debate.

If we use the Horne camp’s logic, then Johnson-Clark needs to discontinue attacking this blogger because I am a veteran.

What does being a Blue Star mom have to do with being an assemblywoman anyway?

Instead of hiding, come out and defend your record.

4. When every sitting GOP Chairman in the district have endorsed Dan Logue and three former GOP Chairmen from Nevada County send a letter to thousands of people – Horne’s defender is a non-Republican…

Food for thought.

New Hampshire Presidential Primary to be held in 2 months?

Posted by "Pat Buchanan, Jr." on October 16, 2007 at 10:25 PM

Yes that’s right. The Iowa Caucus is Jan. 14 and Michigan’s is on the 15th, but if Michigan Dems move that date up to compete for the limelight, NH would jump them both by setting a December date. This is something I figured would happen several years ago when California got the bright idea of moving up the primary election 4 months. I’m all about tradition and having the great state of New Hampshire set the tone for the Republican Primary was something I always liked. After all, I’d rather have the people in New Hampshire decide the GOP candidate rather than California; they’ve done a great job in the past.

My initial questions about AP wire stories regarding 9/30/2007 Fundraising Reports

Posted by Aaron Park on October 15, 2007 at 09:24 PM

As you have read by now, the news is all about John Doolittle and the fact that he didn’t raise a whole lot of money by the 9/30 deadline.

In fact, the money I gave John doesn’t count yet because it was deposited this week.

I am curious to see how the Dem Cong Committee is doing, and how much are they putting into McNerney or Brown? We all know the National Republican Cong Committee has almost no money at all.

I am curious to see how Mc Nerney is doing vs Andal (without National Committee help)... this should be a fair gauge to compare to here.

Doolittle had a Washington DC fundraiser that four members of Congress attended that I believe is not reflected in this report. (it was held at the end of September)

My questions are these -

Egland is doing $50 per person fundraisers and is raising $10 contributions off of the internet… will those add up quickly enough?

Will the behavior of his supporters turn donors away?

Where did the $77,000 come from? I know that those running Egland’s campaign kept donor lists from past Placer GOP Central Committee events and likely used those to call off of. BTW – those lists of donors to past Central Committee events were never turned over to the Central Committee itself.

Ted Gaines’ donors and supporters are the same as John Doolittle’s.

Is the fix in from Washington DC? Will the DC bosses force another candidate into the congressional race or are they going to fund Gaines? Or are they going to give Doolittle a chance to get his campaign together as he has time and again before…

The solidarity of John’s base – as illustrated by Kranz’ censure resolution for example, and as illustrated by the fact that the Local elected support base has not defected (save one former Placer GOP Chairman, and two others with congressional ambitions of their own) have to be huge factors to consider.

That’s what I am looking at from these news reports – $77,000 is not a lot of money. I am not familiar with Congressional fundraising cycles, but I think it is not unusual to have a small report 9 months out from election day.

Ever since defeating Al Rhodda, he has been public enemy number one with the Bee and other local media. Rhodda’s brother was a Bee editor in 1980 when Doolittle won.

Doolittle has been the number one target for Dems to try and take out twice before in the early 1990’s when he was new to Congress. He won then and he will win again now…

Eric Kerry-Egland's Glass Jaw / Where's the Beef?

Posted by Aaron Park on October 14, 2007 at 04:51 PM

No record at all… no one on this blog or the Red County Blog has been able to post an effective rebuttal to any criticism of Eric Kerry-Egland at all.

Their only defense has been to ridicule this blogger for “attacking the uniform”. If we use Eric Kerry-Egland’s own campaign tactics, then I should be exempt from criticism as well because I wore the uniform, too.

Does Kerry-Egland have a record? No. The only thing we do know regarding his qualifications as a Republican is that he wasn’t a Republican as recently as 2005.

What’s even more striking is that Kerry-Egland’s supporters have gotten progressively more frustrated… and now they are going after this blogger as if I myself am a candidate for office!

Witness an e-mail from Mark Williams to me: “I didn’t know… that you had a less than honorable discharge from the Navy until I just say (saw) that on the Red County blog. Get caught up in that who don’t ask don’t tell thing?”

Egland’s campaign consists of:

Religion baiting… Egland wrote in e-mails before Gaines jumped in that “I am the only Conservative Christian in this race.” According to Egland, non Evangelical Christians need not run in a Republican primary – got that Mark Williams? (blogger’s note – Williams has attacked organized religion multiple times on the show he used to host here in Sacramento, a major bone of contention between us)

Hiding behind his uniform to avoid criticism. This has been the most common way for Egland supporters to avoid answering questions about Egland.

Using inaccurate, later retracted articles in local newspapers as the basis for political attacks (see also lying)

Having a military Mom spread malicious lies about Ted Gaines and John Doolittle not caring about the Troops.

Enlisting a former talk radio host and a former Placer GOP Chairman with an Axe to grind to go after John Doolittle all the while giving other primary opponents a free pass. (until the military Mom)

In all of this – no issues, just vacuous statements about ethics while starting the campaign out with an act of betrayal and perpetuating the campaign using erroneous articles in the media and supporters who spread lies.

I am still curious to see what version of the Bible Eric Egland reads that sanctions this kind of behavior.

Deborah Johns is Lying about Local Electeds and Mark Williams is helping her

Posted by Aaron Park on October 13, 2007 at 10:57 AM

Move America forward leaders Deborah Johns and Mark Williams have stooped to new lows.

After John Doolittle’s district director (Gordon Hinkle) and this blogger were alerted to Deborah John’s behavior and question at a recent (10/06/2007) South Placer Republican Women’s Federated meeting – Johns refused to take Hinkle’s call and instead forwarded the voicemail to Mark Williams. Williams dutifully posted the call on his website and of course had to add his own twisted commentary to the “daily rant”.

In the call, Hinkle rightly uses the word ‘appalled’ as in appalling to describe Johns’ behavior. Hinkle has personally delivered three flags to grieving families! John Doolittle has contacted every one of the families in addition to their entire staff following strict protocol regarding this issue. (as further stipulated in the call Williams posted on his site.)

Again, the Kerry-Egland / MAF campaign are playing the “Gold Star Mom” / “Military Veteran” card to try to deny us the opportunity to respond to the obvious lies being spread. They are attempting to play the veteran card to label any critics of them as being anti-military.

Deborah Johns asked Kirk Uhler, Placer County Supervisor who was the speaker at the function why the Local Electeds were doing nothing for the families of fallen soldiers. I spoke with Kirk and he went out of his way to tell me that Johns asked the question in such a manner to include all local electeds in the sphere of criticism.

This would include Ted Gaines and therefore would be consistent with Johns’ support of Kerry-Egland for Congress Campaign.

Johns has repeatedly said in public that John Doolittle doesn’t care about the troops and had publicly lambasting John Doolittle over a page 1 Bee article that misquoted John back in July. (which was later retracted on page 18)

Eric Kerry-Egland is truly the John Kerry of the 4th Congressional.

He talks about Christian values, yet is using lies to try and get campaign traction – in addition to making his service the primacy of his campaign.

I would like the Egland Campaign to find me the passage of scripture that condones betrayal (of John Doolittle) and using lies to run a campaign for office.

Quoting Egland’s opening campaign statement: “I have seen first hand how failures in congressional ethics and leadership have corrupted our government and made our troops, our economy, and our nation more vulnerable.”

Mr Egland – people in glass houses should not be throwing bricks.

El Dorado GOP Supports John Doolittle

Posted by Aaron Park on October 12, 2007 at 08:48 AM

The El Dorado GOP adopted a Pro-Congressman Doolittle Resolution on Tuesday:

El Dorado County Republican Party
Supports Congressman John T. Doolittle

Placerville – On Monday, October 8th the members of the El Dorado Republican Party showed their strong support for the re-election of Congressman John T. Doolittle in 2008.

“We are 100% behind John Doolittle’s bid for re-election and it is one of our top priorities in 2008. His opponents are misguided in their efforts to smear the reputation of our Congressman,” said John Stelzmiller, Chairman – El Dorado County Republican Party.

“We are 100% behind John Doolittle’s effort for re-election and it is one of our top priorities in 2008. His opponents are misguided in their efforts to smear the reputation of our Congressman.”
- John Stelzmiller, Chairman
El Dorado County
Republican Party

The resolution praises Doolittle’s “fight for our nation by leading the House of Representatives against illegal immigration.”

El Dorado Republicans recognized Doolittle for his “refusal to surrender in the on-going fight to build the Auburn Dam and thereby provide clean drinking water, renewable electric power, recreational opportunities, and life-saving flood protection for our region.”

This action follows a similar resolution passed by the Placer County Republican Party and an unprecedented show of early support from State and local leaders for Congressman Doolittle’s re-election.

The Resolution’s text is below:

EL DORADO COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY
Resolution in Support of Congressman John T. Doolittle

Whereas, Congressman John T. Doolittle continues to fight for our nation by leading the House of Representatives against illegal immigration; and

Whereas, Congressman Doolittle continues to fight for his constituents by standing up to the environmental extremists who want to put up barbed-wire fences and “Keep Out” signs on National Forests and other public lands; and

Whereas, Congressman Doolittle has been an outstanding leader in Congress for family values, personal morality, individual responsibility, law and order, and conservative social issues; and

Whereas, Congressman Doolittle has refused to surrender in the on-going fight to build the Auburn Dam and thereby provide clean drinking water, renewable electric power, recreational opportunities, and life-saving flood protection for our region; and

Whereas, Congressman Doolittle’s steadfast support for Republican principles and traditional values have made him a target for liberals across the nation, and they have shown that they will stop at nothing in their quest to replace John T. Doolittle with a liberal in this conservative Congressional seat;

Now, therefore, be it resolved that the El Dorado County Republican Party commends Congressman John T. Doolittle for his steadfast support for conservative Republican principles; and

Be it further resolved that the El Dorado County Republican Party encourages Congressman John T. Doolittle to run for re-election in California’s Fourth Congressional District in 2008.

Nevada GOP Chairmen Reject Horne and Endorse Dan Logue

Linked here is the story from the Nevada County Union

Three former Nevada County Central Committee Chairmen sent a letter all over everywhere (because I got a copy of it, too…)

In the letter, they lambaste Sue Horne for not supporting the Nevada County Republican Party amongst other things.

Below is the entire text of the letter:

An open letter from the past chairmen of the
Nevada County Republican Central Committee—

Dear Fellow Republicans,

As the past chairmen of the Nevada County Republican Central Committee, we write to take what we believe is a rare stand—and an even rarer opportunity to express our position on what we believe to be an issue of great importance.

The Republican Party exists for the purpose of advancing Republican values. We accomplish this end by supporting the election of Republican candidates to state and local offices who share these values. Great effort is expended throughout the state and in our local areas as we work to advance the cause of conservatism.

In 2002, after years of being dominated by a runaway liberal majority on our Nevada County Board of Supervisors, we turned the tide with great efforts and retired two liberal incumbents—achieving a 3-2 GOP majority. Now, in spite of having a 5-0 “Republican” majority, our Board of Supervisors, led by Sue Horne, has abandoned the Republican Party and its values.

As chairmen of the Nevada County Republican Party over the same period, we made many attempts to develop a dialogue with Sue Horne and the board she led as chairman to encourage them to undertake the promised changes to Nevada County government. We brought to Sue’s attention the actions of many strident liberal department heads left in place after the change of majority control—no action was taken.

Ultimately, Sue Horne made it very clear that she had no interest in charting a conservative course for the new board of supervisors. During the leadership of Sue Horne, the Nevada County Board of Supervisors rejected every effort of the Republican Central Committee to preserve and advance Republican concerns and values.

Blogger’s note: Including the BEALE AFB resolution issue!

Sue Horne, now a candidate for Assembly District 3, would have us ignore her weak record: Ignore that she chose to marginalize the Nevada County Republican Central Committee and its values in favor of other, more liberal organizations. Ignore that, until she wanted to run for higher office, she wanted little to do with the Republican party. Ignore that, like so many others, she became a Republican who was easily willing to compromise Republican values for the sake of expediency—relying all too often on the advice of liberal staff. This we will not do; we must not do.

Therefore we resolve to send a clear and unambiguous message that Sue Horne and every elected official in the North State who claims to be a Republican—yet abandons the
