Sue Horne Update - Whining Column in Nevada County Union Laments her Passing
Posted by Aaron Park on July 12, 2008 at 01:07 PM
The Nevada County Union Column is linked here
While touting how he will miss Sue Horne – the author writes in the middle of his column, the following:
Last month, supervisors approved increases in some county fees – including double-digit ones – for the building, environmental health and planning departments, among others.
Last year, they approved pay raises for county employees, including a double-digit increase for the county executive officer.
Note how the author of the column deleted one key fact – Horne voted yes.
He also wrote about the nasty campaign between Horne and Logue, carefully omitting reference to the lie-infested hit piece over the Levees and eminent domain. The choice jewel is excerpted here:
During the state Assembly race, it was disturbing to hear Horne’s critics claim she somehow didn’t have the chops to be a state legislator. “She cried in public,” one said.
Ummm – Mr. Author, Horne did break down several times before important votes. I never blogged about that because there was so much else to talk about regarding Horne.
In the course of defending Horne, the Author wrote the above excerpted lines about all the taxes, fees and salaries she voted to increase.
We need politicians who can reach across the aisle and strike a compromise, not just pound sand. We also need politicians who understand what seems to be a mounting chorus of discontent with status-quo government. I suspect Horne will run again for public office, and her own timing will be better next time.
The Author’s idea of reaching across the aisle is exactly what has Republicans ready to vote for brown and obambi. Selling our values out makes voters just vote for the real thing.
However, this was an opinion piece from someone obviously upset that Horne lost. God forbid he think about why Horne lost…
What should I expect from a paper that never allowed this blogger to respond to attacks against my integrity from the Horne camp?
What the stunning election results mean for the Northern California GOP
Posted by Aaron Park on June 05, 2008 at 08:02 AM
There were two bellweather races in Northern California GOP politics that were decided tuesday.
There was the 4th Congressional District – a race watched nationally and the 3rd Assembly District – a race watched by insiders, whose impact is no less significant.
Dan Logue ran against Sue Horne for the 3rd AD
Tom McClintock ran against Doug Ose for the 4th CD
Both races effectively pitted Doug LaMalfa / Establishment against Rick Keene / Sam Aanestad / Ted Gaines / Conservative activists.
If you looked from afar – you saw Sue Horne and Doug Ose’s huge endorsement lists. Establishment types lined up behind both candidates.
As the campaigns kicked off – it became apparent that Both Horne and Doug Ose were attempting to hide behind their endorsement lists. Once both were starting to get outed for the liberals that they are – then the gloves came off.
The only reason why Sue Horne did not spend an estimated $4.5 million assassinating Dan Logue’s character was that she didn’t have the means to write herself the checks to do so.
Ose did. Even with polling data showing a month out that he was down 30 points – Ose continued to pour money into his race (some $1.5million after the poll was leaked)
Horne, for her part – continued rolling out eatablishment endorsements well into her race and spent what little money she had on unbelievably nasty hit mailers.
Both Horne and Ose’s campaigns activated the Conservative base – earning them both Censures from local Republican organizations / Central Committees.
Logue won by 9.5% and McClintock won by 15%
The Logue v Horne race was seen as a proxy fight between Rick Keene and Doug LaMalfa – round one, Rick Keene.
The McClintock v Ose race was seen by observers all across the country as a referendum on the future direction of the Republican Party.
Logue and McClintock’s races proved that Principle does indeed win on the battlefield against the establishment.
The NRCC and the nimrods in Washington D.C. will do well to open their eyes and realize that:
Ose had the insiders lining up his endorsement list
Ose spent $4.5 Million – a primary record
McClintock had the activists and a few core Conservatives
McClintock spent $1.1 Million – 1/4 what Ose spent
David truely slew Goliath.
When the chips were down – Dan Logue was on the right side. Rick Keene, Sam Aanestad and Ted Gaines established the standard for Northern California.
The big loser was the establishment.
ICYMI - Sue Horne is Melting Down
Posted by Aaron Park on May 26, 2008 at 05:39 PM
It started with Horne skipping out on three debates. On one occasion, Doug LaMalfa showed up to debate Dan Logue in place of Horne.
Then Horne launched the now infamous Eminent Domain mailer that earned her a censure from the Butte and Yuba County Central Committees.
Horne vs GOP Central Committees
Horne’s response was to attack those Republican volunteers because in her words -they were Logue lackeys. She completely ignored the fact that they had stayed neutral until her actions compelled their disgust.
This sounds eerily similar to Liberal Millionaire Doug Ose.
Horne’s popularity with the Republican volunteer base even translated into her home County entertaining a censure vote against her. The only reason why Nevada County did not join the Censure parade was that they wanted more information before taking such an action. Apparently, the mail was a day or two behind in Nevada County.
Where’s the Money?
More recently – Horne’s fundraising has almost ground to a halt. She raised a pathetic $14,000 in the filing period compared to Logue with $57,000. For those of you scoring at home – take $1,000 away from Logue and it figures out to 4:1.
Please also note that the latest reports Show that of the $100,000 Horne lent herself in December – 70K was paid back to herself in January… and the final 30K was paid back in this latest report. This is not the behavior of a winning campaign.
Unhinged in Quincy
The pressure of those numbers coupled with an activist revolt must have been weighing on Horne’s mind.
On May 22nd, at the Plumas County RWF Lunch – an appearance she did not cancel, she called Steve Thompson out publicly in front of the audience. Thompson was at the function on behalf of Rick Keene, who Horne also publicly attacked. Not to be left out, Horne also made sure that Sam Aanestad was included in her tirade.
Unhinged in Nevada County
Sue Horne has spent her Memorial Day weekend leaving messages for prominent local Nevada County citizens who are supporting Logue. Apparently, Horne has a need to share her innermost thoughts with those supporting Logue.
The most comical are those she has made to some of Logue’s donors asking them to donate similar amounts as a price of forgiveness…
Logue’s Response is Priceless
The worst problem Logue has had was mistakenly using Kim Janousek’s title as Nevada County RA President in a mailer.
In that Mailer – six different leaders in Nevada County were quoted about Sue Horne’s consistent pattern of caving into the left.
If Horne had only translated that fire that led her to leave people messages into her office as Supervisor, things could be really different in Nevada County. As it is, the folks on that mailer had better be expecting a voicemail soon…
Shawn Steel (and the CRP?) Takes Sides - Robo Calls Blast Butte GOP Censure of Horne/Ose
Posted by Aaron Park on May 24, 2008 at 07:56 PM
Posted below is the text of an email from Steve Thompson, the Chairman of the Butte County Central Committee. Apparently, the SoCal Leadership of the California GOP has an issue with the activist Central Committees. Their other recent action was to castigate the Placer GOP Committee for endorsing Tom McClintock.
Shawn Steel is the Husband of BOE member Michelle Steel. Michelle Steel and Sue Horne both use Johnson-Clark as their consultant. It is no small wonder that Mr. Steel would lend his voice to the robo-calls going out on behalf of another JCA client.
Is there a quid pro-quo? Or, is the CRP run by country – clubbers supporting Sue Horne / Doug Ose? Or did Shawn Steel act on his own acord? – in which case using his title as a CRP officer is a distinct problem. I will leave that to the readers to decide, but the Johnson-Clark connection is irrefutable…
As a side note, a precinct walk for Sue Horne today in Chico drew 0 volunteers
Steve Thompson, Butte GOP Chairman writes…
Republican Friends,
It has come to my attention that there is an individual making automated calls in to the 3rd Assembly District, and that this individual is spreading lies to try and negate the authority of the Butte County Republican Central Committee.
As you all know, on May 15th the Butte County Republican Central Committee officially censured the campaigns of Sue Horne and Doug Ose. Our committee has not endorsed in these races, as that is forbidden in our bylaws, however, our committee has the right and the responsibility to censure campaigns that cross the lines of decency and honesty in a fair political contest. It is our right as a committee, protected by the 1st Amendment of the Constitution and the bylaws of our party, to speak out against unethical, dishonest, and flat out sleazy campaigns. We have done just that!
The individual making these calls is Shawn Steele. Mr. Steele was once a representative of the California Republican Party, now he has relegated himself to the position of mouthpiece for the Sue Horne campaign. Mr. Steele is claiming that county central committees have no authority to censure. Mr. Steele is wrong. While the bylaws of the BCRCC do not allow for endorsements in primaries, there is no provision prohibiting our use of censures against campaigns that have crossed the line. The bylaws for the California Republican Party read the same.
Friends, the BCRCC took a brave stand when we censured liberals Doug Ose and Sue Horne. It is the same stand we took years ago with Skip Daum. We took a stand to let everyone know that we will no longer tolerate negative, sleazy attack ads aimed at fellow Republican Candidates. Ronald Reagan himself believed that campaigns should conduct themselves in a positive, honest manner. We share and will uphold that belief.
Since we took a stand, the Sue Horne campaign has sunk to new lows in their attempts to harass, intimidate, and discredit our organization. I have had my own integrity attacked in public web logs by Jack Lee, and even received a threatening phone call from Erny Spears, both avid supporters of Sue Horne’s. Sue Horne could have apologized and moved on with a clean campaign. Instead she has sunk further into negativity and despair.
In light of this behavior, I am calling on all public officials who have endorsed Sue Horne to drop their endorsements and denounce Horne’s negative campaign. I encourage all connected with Horne to drop their support of her campaign before she drags their reputations down to her level.
Sincerely,
Steve Thompson, Chairman
Butte County Republican Party

Allow me to add that the Glenn County and Yolo County Republican Central Committees Censured Doug Ose in 1998… no one taped phone calls then!
My Comment on the Butte County Censure Drama
Posted by Aaron Park on May 23, 2008 at 06:56 PM
Jack and “Angry Voter” -
You are both embarrasing the CRA with your actions / words.
1. The CRA was not able to endorse because the Butte CRA is on a blood feud against Rick Keene – since Logue is supported buy Keene, he inherited that good will.
2. The Yuba CRA is a paper club run by Sue Horne’s Campaign Manager – they have not held meetings since chartered and do not cash the dues checks of would-be members. I have proof of both such charges as I am a state officer in the CRA.
3. The Yuba and Butte clubs teamed up to nullify the Placer and Nevada Club 2-2 (or 6 delegates to 6) at the 3rd AD endorsing convention.
I was at that endorsing convention when two other paper CRA units chartered by David Reade sent a bunch of capitol staff (who were paid members into those clubs) to endorse Jim Nielsen – a liberal whose campaign reports read like a who’s who of labor unions.
Nielsen will embarrass the CRA – I will gladly eat these words if he lives up to his talk. His record suggests that he is a sellout along the Johannesen-Dickerson lines.
I have been in the CRA longer than anyone in this discussion except for Pete Weber. One of the first things that the Webers told me is that they have a healthy disdain for Rick Keene. That is common knowledge.
Jack and “Angry” – I was in the room when Butte’s delegation stood for Doug Ose. That was Pete and Lee Weber. They later told me it is because Rico Oller – then the conservative 4th CD Candidate is a bad bad person. (Their words)
The Butte CRA stood up for Sue Horne and Doug Ose because Rick Keene and Rico Oller are “Bad People”.
The other anon commenter “Punisher” is correct when they wrote that Jack Lee kicked off his assembly campaign taking a nice shot at Doolittle.
That is all history – where we are at now is this:
The Butte CRA is at odds with the Butte Central Committee.
The Butte CRA stood with Sue Horne – I was there, I saw it.
The Butte CRA is 100% anti Rick Keene or anything he is close to.
The Butte CRA stood with Millionaire Liberal Congressman Doug Ose before switching to McClintock. Again because of Rico’s personality not principle.
As the state CRA Sgt. at Arms, I can say that in my almost 6 years of service, I have refereed too damn many in-fights.
When personalities trump principles – it creates division. Only a return to real Conservative principles will solve the problem.
This gets us to the Butte Central Committee – Sue Horne LIED OUTRIGHT in her mailer. Lying is not a Conservative value.
Liberals like Ose lie to try and deceive voters into thinking that they are something they are not. Horne is down by double-digits and needed to throw a haymaker punch.
David Reade is still calling the shots for Horne – leave no doubt and Mr. Reade is no stranger to character assassination.
The Butte Central Committee should have censured Strycnine Johnson and Kool-Aid Clark and initiated the first annual David Reade political communication award for excellence in slime.
The Butte Central Committee showed extraordinary courage.
The Butte CRA should take some pause before doing anything rash. The CRA itself is on the sidelines of this race in the 3rd AD and should stay out.
The 125-Member Placer CRA has sat out thus far. The McClintock V Ose race makes the 3rd AD seem like romper room.
BTW – If Dan Logue Lied about Squishy Suzy, then Censure his ass too!
I can’t wait for the next mailer from the mind of David Reade – Dan Logue strangled rabbits as a teenager, or Sue Horne – Courage in action…
Kinda like Ose – Tax Fighter and defender of our borders… WTH!!!
Be careful Butte CRA – please be careful…
Butte County Official Statement / Text of Censure Resolution Against Ose
Posted by Aaron Park on May 23, 2008 at 06:50 PM
Friends,
On Thursday May 15th the executive committee of the Butte County Republican Central Committee voted and took the action of censuring the campaigns of both Doug Ose, candidate for Congress, and Sue Horne, candidate for Assembly.
This is a serious action and it is not something we have taken lightly. Our committee has not evoked the right to censure since liberal Skip Daum was censured for his underhanded attacks on Rico Oller.
In the case of Doug Ose, we have made clear our belief that Ose is not the kind of Republican we wish to send back to Washington D.C. His continued attacks on Tom McClintock meet the criteria of being both maliciously negative and dishonest, which are the criteria we decided to apply in these situations.
In the case of Sue Horne, our feeling is that she is a good Republican being misled by an unethical campaign team. However, the responsibility for her recent attack mailers on Dan Logue, which were both malicious and dishonest, falls on her. We would welcome Mrs. Horne back into the political arena someday but hope that she chooses more ethical consultants in the future.
I know there are plenty of rumors floating around so I wanted to make sure you all read this directly from me. I ask that you all hold to your conservative principles and hang in there, the primary is almost over.
Thank you all for your patience and support,
Steve Thompson, Chairman,
Butte County Republican Party

The Text of the Censure Resolution Follows:
Official Censure Resolution Of Doug Ose, Adopted May 15, 2008
Whereas, The Butte County Republican Central Committee is an organization of Republican activists, comprised of both elected and appointed members residing in Butte County, California, and
Whereas, the Republican Party encourages healthy competition amongst our party’s candidates to offer voters a clear variety of candidates from which to choose, and
Whereas, campaigns should promote a positive vision of the future through Republican leadership within our government, and
Whereas, we believe that campaigns should be positive affirmations of how Republicans can promote individual liberty and limited government, and
Whereas, Republican principles should be at the core of any Republican candidate’s campaign, and
Whereas, candidate Doug Ose has chosen to base his campaign on personal and distasteful attacks against his primary opponent instead of discussing relevant issues important to Republicans in this district, and
Whereas, Mr. Ose has offended the supporters of Tom McClintock by choosing instead to resort to personal attacks against fellow Republicans, and
Whereas, Mr. Ose continues to downplay his own liberal voting record when he served in Congress, and
Whereas, it is believed by Republicans in Butte County, that Doug Ose has behaved in a manner that is unbecoming of a Republican candidate,
Therefore be it resolved, that we, the Butte County Republican Central Committee, do strongly condemn the negative attacks by Mr. Ose against his fellow Republican candidates and ask that Mr. Ose cease from these dishonorable tactics and publicly apologize to his Party and fellow candidates immediately.
Therefore, be it resolved by the Butte County Republican Central Committee that. Doug Ose, Candidate for the 4th Congressional District be officially censured.

Slime is nothing new to Team Horne - look at 2004 for example
Posted by Aaron Park on May 17, 2008 at 04:48 PM
I have a major problem with bald-faced lies in campaign mailers and advertisements.
Why couldn’t Horne attack Logue for being bought by developers – why get people who had been compensated fairly after levees were moved to accommodate their orchards to lend themselves to a fallacious attack?
Is it because Horne has nothing else to go on? What’s next – another David Reade concoction of a fake newspaper like he did to Rico Oller several years ago to make unfounded allegations? The Ose people jumped on that stuff and their anon comment squad were calling Rico a wife-beater in 2008, some 8 years later. (Ose also used that crap in 2004 when he sent a mailer attacking Oller’s marriage on behalf of fellow Moderate Dan Lungren)
Class.
Horne has aligned herself with some people whose MO is brass-knuckled attacks just like Ose.
Take a look at October 2004:
From the Red Bluff Daily News 10/28/2004:
(The excerpt was found on a blog – the actual article requires an archive search to find)
“The final in a series of three candidates nights drew about 120 people to the Red Bluff Elks Lodge on Wednesday night… Tehama County Supervisor Barbara McIver is running for the Second District Assembly seat against Assemblyman Doug LaMalfa. McIver noted her opponent’s absence and responded to a recent LaMalfa advertisement allegedly connecting her to porn king and casino owner Larry Flynt. ‘It’s almost embarrassing to have to respond to this. It’s absolutely categorically untrue,’ said McIver. ‘I can’t believe that I have to stand up here and say I did not take money from Larry Flynt.’”
Damn it anyway, Doug! You didn’t need to tie your lame-ass Democrat opponent to Larry Flynt! She is active in her community, and while wrong for being a Democrat, did not deserve that crap!
The Chico News and Review chimed in: (Do not miss the fact that the CNR is decidedly biased against anything Republican, but their opinion holds merit… because Immoral action to yield a just result is still immoral)
When she’s down, smack her
There was never much chance that Democrat Barbara McIver would defeat Doug LaMalfa in the Nov. 2 race for the state Assembly in District 2, which is heavily Republican. But that didn’t stop LaMalfa’s campaign manager (and chief of staff), David Reade, from running a last-minute TV hit piece that marked a new low, even by Reade’s questionable standards.
The advertisement in question, which tried to say that McIver was getting support from “porn king” Larry Flynt, he of Hustler fame, was a tissue of deceits based only on the fact that Flynt had bought some anti-LaMalfa ads in retaliation for a LaMalfa vote against Flynt’s Southern California gambling interests.
The long-married McIver, who has four children and is a deacon in her church, hadn’t received a penny from Flynt and had never met the man. LaMalfa won handily.
What was Reade thinking? If you figure it out let us know.
Four Years Later – we are all still waiting for an answer.
Butte County GOP Censures Sue Horne and Doug Ose
Posted by Aaron Park on May 16, 2008 at 06:10 AM
Doug Ose now has the distinction of being censured by three County Central Committees.
In 1998, the Glenn and Yolo County Republican Central Committees Censured Ose for dirty campaigning. In 2008, Butte added itself to the list of Republican Committees fed up with Ose’s boorish Campaigning. This weekend, a follow-up story will appear.
Not to be outdone – Sue Horne whose campaign has floundered most of 2008, launched one of the most aggressive and egregious campaign attacks seen in Northern California in the 2008 cycle.
The Yuba County Republican Central Committee acted swiftly and decisively – they Censured Sue Horne for her desperate half-truths in the attack. Butte County has joined Yuba County in Censuring Sue Horne’s campaign tactics.
The Release Follows:
For Immediate Release
Contact: Steve Thompson
5/15/08 (530) 415-7071
(Chico) The Butte County Republican Party on Thursday voted to censure Doug Ose, candidate for Congress, and Sue Horne, a candidate for State Assembly. This was a disciplinary action taken against Ose and Horne for negative and misleading campaign ads against their respective Republican opponents, Tom McClintock and Dan Logue.
Doug Ose’s ads were called into question for misleading statements about Tom McClintock’s use of per diem in the California Legislature. Sue Horne was likewise criticized for a recent mailer falsely accusing Dan Logue of abusing eminent domain powers as a Yuba County Supervisor.
“Republicans hold their candidates to high standards,” said Steve Thompson, Chairman of the committee, “and our membership felt that the Ose and Horne campaigns had gone too far. Their attacks were underhanded and dishonest, and we had to speak out against conduct we believed to be unbecoming of Republican candidates.”
Jim Ledgerwood, an executive member of the committee, believed the attacks went against the spirit of Ronald Reagan. “All we’re asking is that Ose and Horne run clean campaigns on the issues,” said Ledgerwood, “if they can’t win with a positive message, do we really want them representing our party in elected office?”
The move by the Butte County Republican Party to censure follows the recent censure of Sue Horne by the Yuba County Republican Party.
Gay Marriage Ruling Affects More than Ose/Brown - Sue Horne Endorsed by Log Cabin Group
Posted by Aaron Park on May 15, 2008 at 12:56 PM
I guess I can now write W.W.H.D.?
After a dastardly attack mailer backfired, Horne’s campaign is taking on more water than the HMS Ose Titanic.
While Ose ran into the ICE-Berg, Horne’s own endorsements are now continuing her rapid descent into the 30% range in her primary.
Case and point is a post from the FlashReport Jon Fleischman writes about the Log Cabin Republicans – a Gay Republican Group and their choices of endorsements.
Log Cabin Republicans work to make the Republican Party more inclusive, particularly on gay and lesbian issues. Equality will be impossible to achieve without Republican votes. Working from inside the Party—educating other Republicans about gay and lesbian issues—is the most effective way to gain new Republican allies for equality. Log Cabin also exists as a voice for GOP values among members of the gay and lesbian community…
Jon Fleischman wrote himself, “Great – we get it. And to the credit of California Log Cabin Director James Vaughn, he and his organization are virtual Energizer Bunnies when it comes to pushing the gay and lesbian agenda within the GOP.”
In the wake of the California Supreme Court Ruling – W.W.H.D.? Is she going to stand up for the Log Cabin group or is she going to throw them under the bus?
Dan Logue Endorsed by Sac Metro Chamber + Responds to Absurd Attack by Horne
Posted by Aaron Park on May 15, 2008 at 09:19 AM
As Logue is piling up a huge list of Law Enforcement Endorsements, the Sac Metro Chamber endorsed him this morning.
I am sure Logue will have a press release coming soon.
I guess Doug Ose is not the only one who is desperate to get traction in a failing campaign – Sue Horne launched an attack mailer against Dan Logue that was a complete fabrication…
Logue’s Campaign responded below:
Deceitful Horne Mailer Gets Facts Wrong
Logue Demands Apology
Republican Assembly candidate Dan Logue today demanded an apology from Sue Horne for the outrageously deceitful mailer she sent out this weekend.
Horne put out a mailer that quoted Yuba Farmers Tom and Jeanette Rice as saying, “Supervisor Dan Logue and his cronies stole our land…He wouldn’t listen. He just voted to steal our farm.”
The mailer went on to claim that Logue “abused the power of eminent domain” to take the land (for public safety.)
The reality is that:
situation that was necessary for public safety.
· The Rices were paid $155,000 (more that two times its market value) for six acres of orchard. After which they publicly and repeatedly said they were "pleased" with the settlement. Appeal Democrat September 21, 2007 View Story· Dan Logue listened to Mr. Rice on six separate occasions that can be documented. At those meetings, Mr. Rice described the settlement as a 'win-win"Given the intentionally deceitful nature of the Horne mailer, Dan Logue has demanded Sue Horne to apologize.
Logue stated, “The record is clear. The record is public. Sue Horne blatantly disregarded the truth, She owes me and the voters of the 3rd District an apology for intentionally deceiving voters for political gain.”
FACT SHEET
Why Eminent Domain was Used on the Rice Property
Without the use of the Rice’s property, Three Rivers Levee Improvement Authority (TRLIA) would not been able to widen the levee as required by California Department of Water Resources.
Without the land, Yuba County would not have received the $135 Million in levee repair funds.
Without the Rice’s land, residents of Plumas Lakes and other communities would have been in danger of suffering from massive catastrophic floods.
In fact, TRLIA engineer Rick M. Rienhard said use of eminent domain was necessary to prevent a Katrina like flood that would have cost taxpayers and homeowners $2 billion.
· The land was not stolen. The Rice Family was paid $155,000.
The September 21, 2007 Appeal Democrat article goes on to say that the original offer from the county to buy six acres was $18,000 per acre, but Rice said “she was not concerned with money.”
Tom and Jeanette Rice were paid $155,000 for six acres – over $30,000/per acre or twice the going rate for orchard land.
· In a September 21, 2007 article entitled “Farmer, Agency Find Accord on Levee Move,” the Appeal Democrat reports that Jeanette Rice of the agreement, “We are pleased…we wanted the whole lot but we know that can’t be done. We are realistic. Compromise is good.”
· Supervisor Dan Logue did listen – at least six times—and has proof.
Supervisor Logue serves on the Three Rivers Levee Improvement Authority. Mr. Rice testified before that board on December 21, 2007; November 16, 2007;October 19, 2007; September 21, 2007; September 11, 2007, and August 17, 2007. Each time Dan Logue was present and listening. The official minutes of the meeting record Mr. Rice’s comments.
But, once again Sue Horne’s campaign failed to document Mr. Rice’s glowing comments toward the arrangements between him and the levee authority.
Here are some of Tom Rice’s comments:
“We have in place a potential solution that provides the same desired high standard of public safety while still working to preserve a valuable sustainable agriculture. -December 21, 2007
“It needs to be clearly understood that this proposal we are working through fully serves public safety as well as allowing the survival of a valuable part of the community. It is a win-win and it needs to be seen through. -November 16, 2007
“I have no material disagreements with the proposal that TRLIA has presented and I will let that sink in. We have no material disagreements.” – September 21, 2007

Dan Logue / Chris Simcox bus tour a smash hit!
Posted by Aaron Park on May 11, 2008 at 10:28 AM
The Paradise Post joined in the fun
Logue and Chris Simcox made several stops after their kick-off with McClintock in Grass Valley on the 7th. The stop in Grass Valley drew such a huge turnout that they had to turn people away.
The Bus tour stopped in Grass Valley, Susanville, Graeagle (sp), Paradise, Oroville, then ended in Yuba County. The bus tour drew huge turnouts and only minimal harassment – such as a City Councilman in Paradise.
Every venue was packed – standing room only. Little Northern California towns were pulling crowds of 200+ people.
This Bus Tour further underscored the difference between Sue Horne and Dan Logue – not an idealogical divide… but rather, Logue is willing to stand up and take fire for issues we care about.
Logue is not the establishment choice. His endorsements have been earned. Logue is a tough leader that can be counted on to fight and not acquiesce.
Events like this underscore that the Republican establishment along with spending, lost power over the border issue because they are too weak to stand up to the race racket that call them racist for wanting to enforce legal immigration.
I believe that Logue is going to win his primary easily and I am proud to support him.
Team Charlie Brown Attacks Dan Logue / Tom McClintock and the Minutemen!
Posted by Aaron Park on May 09, 2008 at 06:36 AM
Charlie Brown is going to miss a little more than a field goal this election cycle.
First off – the Nevada County Union penned an excellent article about the Minutemen:
Our Organization is Misunderstood – Nevada County Union May 8th
The issue of illegal immigration has become a hot button topic for campaigns around the county, and though Nevada County is not a prime destination for any kind of immigrants, the call for stricter immigration enforcement resounds with many voters here, a reform advocate said Wednesday.
Chris Simcox, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, accompanied Republican candidates Dan Logue and Tom McClintock at a lunch meeting in Nevada City.
Illegal immigration encourages abuse of immigrants at the hands of drug mafias increasingly involved in smuggling people, exposes immigrants to the threat of death in southwestern deserts, permits exploitation of workers by unscrupulous American business people, and lowers the wages of legal workers, Simcox said later in an interview at The Union.
“Our organization is misunderstood” by people who call it racist and anti-immigrant, Simcox said. “What we are doing is pro-immigrant. ... (Immigration) is not a civil rights issue. It’s a rule of law issue. It’s a national security issue.” (Blogger’s Note – are you taking notes, O-Si?)
Expansion of guest-worker programs, reform of the “broken” immigration bureaucracy, stepped-up border enforcement, and the location of more than 1 million people who entered the country legally but who have overstayed their visas since 2001 would be first steps in solving deeper issues linked to immigration, Simcox said.
Strict enforcement would create “a level playing field” for employers who already hire legal workers at a greater cost than illegal ones, he added.
Civil rights organizations have accused the Minuteman organization of stirring racist tensions.
And of Course, Charlie Brown has to make his voice heard…
Note how the Letter-Writer ignores Doug Ose as a factor and attacks Tom McClintock/Dan Logue…
Slam the door shut on Republican carpetbagger Tom McClintock who feels because he has name recognition he can shuttle up the corridor from Southern California and lay claim to retiring John Doolittle’s 4th District Congressional seat.
Tom McClintock and his anti-immigration buddies are coming to Nevada City today to sell their immigration spiel, all of which has been thoroughly debunked by Sacramento writer Dan Walters. Politician Dan Logue is bringing immigration maverick Chris Simcox and McClintock to Nevada County for an anti-immigration smackdown.
Send a clear message to Republican extremists from afar and vote for Charlie Brown.
Ron Lowe
Grass Valley
I wonder if “Bob” and Ron know each other? O-Si should be annoyed that he does not even merit mention in either article… others would call that a sign from God. (speaking of Republican extremists)

So much so, that Logue has been endorsed by both founders of the Minutemen and Tom McClintock has been endorsed by Chris Simcox.
Of Further Note:
“Sue Horne, a Nevada County supervisor and Logue’s opponent in the June 3 Republican primary, did not return a call Tuesday seeking comment on the tour.” (Nevada County Union April 30th, 2008)
Doug Ose – Lifetime 55% from Federation for Immigration Reform and Lifetime “C” from Americans for Better Immigration (“C” = 40%-60% range.)
Logue and McClintock kick off a three day bus tour starting this morning at 11:30AM in Nevada City at the Trolley Junction Restaurant, 400 Railroad Ave.
Simcox and Logue are going to hit: Susanville, Quincy, Oroville and Loma Rica in Yuba County… Looks like some good old fashioned campaigning!

Minutemen co-founder to address area residents on illegal immigration

One of the leading proponents of a border fence and other measures to crack down on illegal immigration will be speaking next week in Nevada City as part of the “Secure Our Borders” campaign tour.
Chris Simcox is the co-founder of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps, an organization that has attracted national attention – and some criticism – for organizing volunteers to patrol the southwestern U.S. border and orchestrating a campaign to force the federal government to get tougher on illegal immigration.
Third Assembly District candidate Dan Logue is bringing Simcox to the area for a three-day tour that starts at 11:30 a.m. May 7 at Trolley Junction restaurant, 400 Railroad Ave., Nevada City. The event is open to the public, but lunch costs $12 at the restaurant.
California senator and 4th Congressional District candidate Tom McClintock is joining the tour.
After the Nevada City stop, Simcox is scheduled to speak in Susanville, Quincy, Oroville and Loma Rica in Yuba County, said Logue, a Yuba County supervisor and Realtor in Marysville.
Sue Horne, a Nevada County supervisor and Logue’s opponent in the June 3 Republican primary, did not return a call Tuesday seeking comment on the tour.
Relatively few Mexican immigrants reside in western Nevada County – about 2,000, according to one church that has an outreach program. Nevertheless, illegal immigration is the top issue in the larger district, Logue said Tuesday.
“This is crippling the economic future of California,” Logue said. “They (illegal immigrants) have to play by the same rules and abide by the laws of the land that have been ignored.”
Logue supports a border fence, making proficiency in English a requirement of citizenship, legislation to bar illegal immigrants from attending public schools and “turning off the immigrant magnet.”
The Republican candidate said he believes the lure of free health care and public education costs the state millions that it no longer can afford, and that “sanctuary cities” like San Francisco and Los Angeles need to be denied federal funding.
Logue’s positions mirror those of Simcox, a lightning rod in the immigration wars who has been interviewed by CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, PBS, USA Today and countless right-wing radio talk show hosts.
Simcox, 46, is a former Los Angeles kindergarten teacher who moved in 2003 to southern Arizona, where he bought the Tombstone Tumbleweed and launched the movement that has made him a hero to some and an enemy to others.
Organizations including the Southern Poverty Law Center and the National Council of La Raza have accused Simcox of “hate-mongering.”
Simcox was not available to be interviewed on Tuesday, according to a representative from the Minutemen organization.

Dan Logue gets hit by Chico News and Review for (GASP) Secure our Borders!

Excerpt:
Immigration. It’s a hot topic that has fallen out of the mainstream news of late, but is still on people’s minds—just check out the signs on the road for State Assembly hopeful Dan Logue, with “Secure Our Borders!” in large type below his name (as if a state assemblyman has any say in the matter).
The Chico News and Review led off a movie review with that screed. Nice to know people are noticing the leader in the 3rd AD race!
Nevada County GOP Dinner Report - Senator Sam performs Oral Surgery on Doug Ose
Posted by Aaron Park on April 12, 2008 at 08:46 PM
Please note that Sam Aanestad is an Oral Surgeon by trade, and Saturday night returned to his practice while introducing his colleague Senator Tom McClintock)
There were some fireworks at the Nevada County GOP dinner.
Dan Logue spoke to a receptive audience, he started slow and caught steam receiving applause a few times and finishing strong. Logue spoke about his deeply held Conservative values.
The fireworks occurred when Doug Ose spoke before McClintock. Ose received no applause during his speech and tepid applause at the end. Ose stepped in it big time when he launched a cheap shot at Tom McClintock over the Per Diem issue. Senator Sam Aanestad, sitting at the head table, injected “That’s just wrong!” while Ose was speaking.
The audience did not appreciate Ose’s cheap shot, either.
Aanestad got up to speak and introduce Tom McClintock, Aanestad lit into Doug Ose, receiving applause from the audience.
Tom McClintock finished the evening – he started by addressing the cheap shot saying he does not apologize for keeping his family together and taking Per Diem (according to Bill Leonard staffers – 118 out of 120 state legislators take per diem).
After that, Tom Declared that he is going to leave the personal attacks to Doug Ose and focus on issues. The audience apparently agreed, giving McClintock 10 ovations – two of which were standing.
Doug LaMalfa Staff Reunion Endorses Nielsen
Posted by Aaron Park on April 04, 2008 at 08:56 AM
I attended the CRA endorsing convention for the 2nd and 3rd Assembly District.
I have written that the Yuba County RA has not met since being chartered and how they have not cashed dues checks of people seeking to join. They certainly showed up with delegates yesterday – all of whom either work on Horne’s Campaign or for Doug LaMalfa. Nice.
The Yuba RA’s President lives in Placer County and is Sue Horne’s campaign manager.
This is especially ironic because Johnson-Clark wrote a whiny press release about Jeff Miller getting endorsed by Paper CRA Units in the 71st.
I wonder what their release is going to say about Nielsen’s endorsement. Two of the units with jurisdiction over that endorsement were entirely Doug LaMalfa staff or campaign staff.
Out of the four LaMalfa Units chartered – I will give the Tehama unit credit for being legitimate as they actually had a delegate that did not work for LaMalfa.
The irony here is that if something comes out of Nielsen’s residency issue – it could be a major black eye for the CRA and for Nielsen’s supporters.
As it is, you have to tip your cap to David Reade and Doug LaMalfa for knowing how to use the process!
This Just in - Horne Stumbles out of the Starting Gate... Major Campaign Blunder
Posted by Aaron Park on March 10, 2008 at 11:40 AM
I was informed this weekend that Sue Horne failed to check her form 510 (correct number?) correctly…
She declined to accept voluntary limits on campaign finance even though no one has ever reached the $480,000 threshold in Northern California.
The consequnces are that Dan Logue will have a ballot statement and Sue Horne will not. This is a major blunder as a ballot statement will provide a 7-10 point advantage when someone has one versus one who does not.
Someone must have missed this detail when they were engaged in sending out press releases.
Sue Horne Press Release - Decries "Attack"
Posted by Aaron Park on March 05, 2008 at 03:03 PM
I got two words for Sue Horne: REX ARCHER
WHAT DOES SUE HORNE’S ENDORSEMENT OF MCCLINTOCK REALLY MEAN???
The Press Release Follows:
Dan Logue’s Team Attacks Sue Horne for Her Endorsement of Tom McClintock
(Nevada City) – Earlier this week, Team Logue used a BLOG post to openly attack Sue Horne for her announcement supporting Senator Tom McClintock’s run for Congress.
“This is incredible that Logue would continue a high-intensity attack campaign against Sue Horne, especially this early in a race,” said Horne Spokesman Mark Spannagel. “Horne endorsed Tom McClintock because he is the right candidate for this seat, and she’s not going to back down. Team Logue’s continued attack against Sue’s decision to support McClintock is simply deplorable.”
“But, the sad reality is that these attacks are simply a reflection of Logue’s own character,” added Spannagel.
Logue’s support team found itself in trouble in 2007 after levying a MoveOn.Org styled nasty attack against conservative veterans. At the time, Nevada County Supervisor Nate Beason said of Logue’s campaign:
(Please note that this blogger is also a Conservative Veteran – there they go throwing the Conservative word around again)
“These guys are playing nasty, and I’m going to hold them accountable every time my name comes up,” Beason said. “Anyone endorsing the Logue campaign is endorsing his tactics. Having been in a profession (U.S. Navy) for 30 years where ethics was everything, I have problems with people who run for political office and do things like this.”
(Mr. Beason – come get some)
The Union, 9/27/07
Logue’s team then openly attacked the popular Republican Police Chief of Chico after he endorsed Horne’s Assembly Campaign.
(Please note Bruce Hagerty’s active endorsements of Bill Lockyer (also F rated by Gun Owners of America like Doug Ose) and Steve Westley)
What does Sue Horne's Endorsement of Tom McClintock really mean?
Posted by Aaron Park on March 02, 2008 at 10:48 AM
McClintock’s announcement into the 4th CD race was broken on this blog Wednesday afternoon. An email went out from team McClintock yesterday. So why would Sue Horne jump the gun and endorse McClintock a few days before he becomes official?
To understand the connection of Doug LaMalfa, Sue Horne, Jim Nielsen, Dick Dickerson et. al… you have to go back a little ways.
It was 1999. Assemblyman Rico Oller was going to Run for State Senate against Assemblyman Bernie Richter.
Former State Senator Jim Nielsen endorsed Richter. David Reade, LaMalfa’s current Chief of Staff was on board with Richter as well. In the prior election cycle, Reade ran against Sam Aanestad for Assembly… at the time Reade ran as the moderate. Aanestad endorsed Rico Oller.
At that time, Chico City Council Member Rick Keene endorsed Rico Oller – a staunch Conservative. Doug LaMalfa stood behind his man Bernie Richter. Sue Horne was Bernie Richter’s district director.
Oller attacked Richter for talking Conservative in the district and going to Sacramento and voting like a Sacramento politician.
Apparently, a large part of the reason why Nielsen, LaMalfa and David Reade chose to stand behind a complete liberal like Doug Ose over Rico Oller relates back to past campaigns.
The other part appears to be more more idealogical – Nielsen voted more than a dozen times to send our water to LA, Richter was often counted on by Willie Brown to provide a crossover Republican vote for whatever Brown needed and the rest was previously written.
When the now 4th CD 2008 race was shaping up as Oller v. Ose… the Reade / Horne camp had completely aligned itself with Doug Ose.
With McClintock’s entry into the Congressional race, it effectively doomed Doug Ose’s Congressional Campaign. Now, Horne was facing a public outing – her campaign says she is a Conservative. The former GOP chairmen in Nevada County know better, Sam Aanestad who lives in nearby Penn Valley endorsed Dan Logue instead of Sue Horne.
The Nevada County board of supervisors’ behavior says something other than a Conservative History. However, shining a light on the behavior of local government is difficult – this blog has been doing as such for a while REMEMBER? and Remember the former Nevada GOP Chairmen?
Now Horne is breaking ranks with her team – bailing out on her expected endorsement of Doug Ose. Could Ose be bailing out of the 4th CD race in the face of superior force? Where will this leave everyone else on Ose’s endorsement list? Personal vendettas and multi-year grudges are no excuse for a moral compromise.
The people that know Horne the best have endorsed Dan Logue. Sue Horne must be feeling the heat as the Conservative backlash against the establishment rallying behind Doug Ose is moral outrage. Consistent with her past behavior – Sue Horne is apparently bowing to pressure. This time, however, to do the right thing as opposed to Beale AFB.
Meantime – Rico Oller gets the shaft for standing up for Conservative values in the North State. It takes a Conservative of God-like status to stop the freight train wreck – all because a whole bunch of people don’t like Rico Oller? There has to be more going on here. Sue Horne’s endorsement of McClintock is an obvious strategy – the list of people selling out their Conservative values to support Ose is far too long for it to just be about getting even with Rico.
Recall Leader against Dan Logue in Deep Trouble (7 count indictment trouble)
Posted by Aaron Park on February 07, 2008 at 05:07 PM
File this one under the category of choose your friends wisely…
A while back, Sue Horne’s campaign was bragging about trouble for Dan Logue – a recall effort being led by Rex Archer with the backing of the local labor unions.
Jim Nielsen, Doug LaMalfa and Doug Ose are all on team Horne… they need to read the next paragraphs of this post carefully…
Mr. Archer failed miserably in leading a Recall of Dan Logue – a black eye for the Horne campaign. They would have been better of to have said nothing at all…
It just gets worse… the Marysville Appeal-Democrat has a bombshell of a story.
This is an excerpt -
The seven-count complaint, filed Wednesday and signed by Deputy District Attorney Bradley Enos, includes two counts of continuous sexual abuse, three counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, oral copulation with a child under 14, and penetration by a foreign object of a child under 16.
The whole story is linked here
This is unbelievable – someone from the Nielsen / Horne / LaMalfa / Ose machine should have done their homework before e-mailing the universe about what Archer was trying to do to Dan Logue.
The Nielsen / Horne / LaMalfa / Ose machine now has a major embarrassment.
Update – Rex Archer tried to run for Sheriff before running unsuccessfully for Yuba County Supervisor. I guess Rex made it to the Sheriff’s office after all…
Never one to accept defeat – Archer tried to sue the county for not allowing him to run for Sheriff – Archer failed to meet the qualifications to serve as Sheriff.
However- I am sure that we will be able to interview Archer about the California Prison System and the Yuba County Jail in a few years.
Sue Horne's campaign team caught with some "straight talk" of their own...
Posted by Aaron Park on February 01, 2008 at 06:20 PM
Sue Horne has been touting endorsements from prominent liberals in the 3rd AD.
Her endorsers include people who prefer Democrats to Republicans and who are affiliated with Environmental causes and Labor Unions. I guess Sue Horne is using a page from the McCain school of Republican primaries – trying to get the support of non-Republicans, Republicans who prefer Democrats and leaving your base behind.
Witness Dan Logue gaining the endorsement of GOP County Chairman number five out of seven possible in the district. This would be Sierra County GOP Chairman Don Russell who joined Lassen, Yuba, Butte and Placer in supporting Dan Logue.
Former GOP Chairmen seem to prefer Dan Logue as well as I see only one former County GOP Chairman on Horne’s list.
The fact that the GOP base is coalescing around Logue must be troublesome for Sue Horne.
For at least most of today – her website had listed an endorsement from the Nevada County Republican Central Committee. This was an apparent reaction to the endorsements of Logue as it was patently inaccurate.
I spoke with the Nevada County GOP Chairman at the John Doolittle retirement announcement and he said he was staying out and the four former Nevada GOP Chairman “said all that needed to be said”. (The four former chairmen sent out a letter explaining their support of Logue)
Only Terry Robinson – who reads and comments on this blog, is listed as a GOP supporter of Sue Horne in Nevada County. State Senator Sam Aanestad R-Grass Valley has endorsed Dan Logue.
Recently, team Horne removed the reference from the website quietly. This underscores the dichotomy between Logue and Horne – Horne can not even shore up the Republican base in her own home county. Logue, on the other hand has roughly 80% of the activist endorsements from Republican leaders in the District.
There is a clear distinction in the 3rd Assembly race – Dan Logue doesn’t have to change his website to reflect Republican support.
Comparing Candidates - Logue's vs Horne's Endorsements
Posted by Aaron Park on January 13, 2008 at 11:48 AM
We have been treated to quite a few e-mails regarding the 3rd Assembly District race – I decided to take a step back and use the candidate’s websites to draw a distinction.
When you visit Dan Logue’s Website, the sidebar has a button that Jumps out at you -
Standing Tall Against Liberalism
The page on Logue’s site includes choice snippets such as -
“And, he fought for those Republicans because he believed that liberals like Nancy Pelosi and Phil Angelides will run our state and nation into the ground if we let them.”
Sue Horne, however has endorsements from “Republicans” that seem to like people like Angelides (as in Steve Westley and Bill Lockyer).
You also see no such proud assertions other than brief contextual messages on Horne’s site about being Conservative.Horne’s Past campaign e-mails have attacked Dan Logue for protecting private property rights and have celebrated a dead-end recall formented by the Enviros and Labor Unions.
Taking a further look into the endorsement lists – you see a proliferation of endorsements from out of the District on Horne’s site and when you look at the endorsements from within the district – you should instantly notice the endorsements of non-Republicans. This is a primary, and in a primary you are appealing to Republican voters.
Perhaps Dan Logue’s website exemplifies a Republican candidate with Republican credentials the best. Of course the candidates are going to tout their credentials – but the local activist leaders – not the entrenched establishment best typify the pulse of the voters.
Recently, Dan Logue announced the endorsement of four past County GOP Chairman from Sue Horne’s home County of Nevada. Greg Marks, Karen Chileski, Dick Marshall and Tony Gilchrease all signed a letter of support.
Current Republican Leaders such as:
Karna Boyer, Chairman Sutter County GOP
John Byrne, Chairman, Butte County GOP
Steve Thompson, Vice-Chairman, Butte County GOP
Jerry Crippen, Chairman Yuba County GOP
Rocky Deal, Chairman, Lassen County GOP
Tom Hudson, Chairman, Placer County GOP
George Park, Jr. Vice-Chairman, Placer County GOP
When you add bona-fide Conservative organizations like the Young Americans for Freedom, The National Tax Limitation Committee and several property rights organizations to the mix – the choice becomes clear… Don Logue.
