Fireworks from Up North - Butte CRA Slammed by Butte GOP for Endorsing Liberals

This is what happens when personality issues trump principle.
Read the text of the Butte GOP’s Censure or the Butte CRA and then ask, can you blame the Butte GOP Committee for doing what they did?
If the Placer CRA starts down the same path, let’s hope our own committee would do this stuff, too…
Maybe if more GOP organizations showed this kind of leadership – we wouldn’t be cowering in our bunkers waiting for the end to come in the 2008 election.
OFFICIAL CENSURE OF THE BUTTE COUNTY CHAPTER,
CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLY
Whereas, the Butte CRA is an official chapter of the California Republican Assembly, an organization dedicated to supporting and endorsing conservative Republicans seeking public office.
Whereas, The CRA lives by the slogan “the conservative conscience of the Republican Party,” a motto bestowed upon them by none other than President Ronald Reagan, one of the fathers of the modern conservative movement.
Whereas, conservatism is a movement and belief rooted in the principles, not the personalities of our political leaders. Principles construed by most conservatives to include opposition to tax increases, supporting the rights of the unborn, supporting the right of citizens to keep and bear arms, supporting a strong national defense, and the support of traditional American family values, among other beliefs that separate conservatives from moderate to liberal Republicans.
Whereas, the Butte Chapter of the CRA has failed on numerous occasions to support principled conservative candidates in Republican primaries while actively giving their support to moderate candidates.
Whereas, the Butte CRA, under the leadership of Pete and Lee Weber, placed personality ahead of principle when they cast votes to endorse liberal Republican candidates such as Skip Daum and Doug Ose, over the conservative candidate Rico Oller, in two separate races.
Wheras, Pete Weber, when questioned about these actions, responded with an email of half-truths with the intention of confusing and deceiving members of the local Republican Party.
And whereas, the Butte CRA is found to have brought dishonor to their organization and to all Republicans of Butte County, and to have acted in a manner harmful to the greater good of the Republican Party.
Therefore be it resolved that the Butte County Republican Central Committee, the officially elected representatives of the Republican voters of Butte County, do hereby Censure the Butte CRA for failure to uphold their conservative standards.

The other side of this story is that the Butte County CRA kicked Steve Thompson out of the local chapter. So Steve and the Butte County Central Committee was after a little blood of their own.
I really wished that neither action had taken place. There are some very serious divisions forming here. And the dems are eating it up!
I say again, I wish that neither the expelling of Steve Thompson or the censure of the Butte CRA had taken place, and I think in the end, both actions have the potential to do more harm than good.
Nick – Steve Thompson and his wife are members of the Placer Club for the time being.
Nick,
The difference in these actions is that the Butte CRA has been basing their actions, including the one you mention, on personal vendettas. The Butte Central Committee took action based on principles. I think we can agree that voting for personality over principle is a recipe for disaster, and has already brought more harm to our party than any administrative actions between two county organizations.
The sad truth is that the Butte CRA has been run into the ground by the bitterness of one very unhappy old woman. Even sadder is that the general membership won’t stand up to her, not even her husband. You should ask Jack Lee about this sometime, I’m starting to get the feeling that he is seeing this and is smart enough to distance himself from it.
Steve
