Placer CRA 2nd Quarter Meeting a Success!

Posted by Aaron Park on June 13, 2008 at 01:29 PM

Last night’s meeting featured out Republican nominee for Congress – Tom McClintock.

McClintock spoke about the State Budget and his upcoming campaign against the tin soldier.

Tom also spoke a length about the power of Blogs and letters to the editor. I think the next effort of the Placer CRA will be to put teams of people together to do just that.

Sitting in the front row was Bruce Kranz – Supervisor in the 5th District that is in a runoff against extreme leftist Jennifer Bloomfield-Montgomery. Kranz endorsed Ose, but is obviously on board with Tom.

Also in attendance was Miguel Ucovich from Loomis town council- Miguel did not endorse Ose.

The most interesting part of the evening was litening to Tom speak about the state budget and the dire circumstances of the State because of the refusal of the leadership to tell anyone no.

It remains to be seen if a late budget is going to affect Tom’s campaign.

Hi guys!

My wife and I are members of, and were invited to, the Placer County Republican Assembly meeting tonight. The guest speaker was Tom McClintock. His wife Laurie was there, and his son. (There were about 25 in attendance.)

He gave a very insightful analysis of what’s happening (and not happening) in the California State Legislature. He feels that redistricting is not the big issue Republicans seem to think it is. He feels it may mean a couple seats more in each house, one way or another, which would make a difference in a close legislature. He feels the real focus should be on issues. He used the examples Prop 13, and of the Contract with America and the huge turnaround that brought to Washington. He referred to Californians throwing our Governor Gray Davis. Interesting point.

As I mentioned in previous notes, he is well read, knows history, is well grounded in free market principles (and in his own personal ethical principles), articulate, and effective.

He turned on a light for me when he talked about how we “used to” write to and call and visit our legislators, and it meant something. He told us that the most effective ways to reach them today is to get our issue published in the local press. He went on to say that even better is to have them published in a well watched blog.

I have, personally, felt extremely disenfranchised writing to Senators Boxer and Feinstein, or calling their offices, just so someone could “tally” my interest. They always respond with a canned note that tells me they’re doing exactly the opposite of what I asked, and they’re so cheery and upbeat in their message, as if I’m so stupid to think that they actually heard me!

Tonight, we both introduced ourselves to the Senator again, mentioning that we’re with The Club for Growth. Tom was effusive about the Club’s help and support, both from the Club’s members, and from the PAC. He feels that the Dem opponent will have about $1 million in his war chest by November, but says that although Tom’s primary campaign spent him down to almost nothing, he’s begun accumulating funds again. He mentioned that many of his donations locally came in, I think he said, on average at about $123, and that there were many.

This was our first visit to a PCRA event in a long time, although we’ve been members in the past. Everyone was very friendly. (The only troublesome thing was that about every third person there was named Park!)
