Doug Ose's history with the Placer GOP Central Committee

Posted by Aaron Park on March 08, 2008 at 12:05 PM

It was 2002. The anti-Doolittle forces had recruited Dr. Bill Kirby to run against John Doolittle in the Primary and Kirby received 22% of the vote. At the same time, that rascally Placer County Republican Central Committee was under siege from an entire slate of Moderates seeking to upset the current committee that was loyal to the congressman.

In 2002, we heard a lot of the same absurdities – they are closed-minded, extremists (sounds like the rhetoric from the MainStreet Partnership), they were resoundingly defeated when Rico Oller, Tim Leslie and John Doolittle joined forces and dispatched the uprising.

The Slate of “Mainstream Republicans” (Sound Familiar) was trounced. They won two seats – in the process of this artificially-induced division, several members of the CRA got left out in the cold. (ironically, Tom Hudson was one of them) The electeds put together a slate of Candidates (some of whom are current Ose endorsers), and as a result, lessor-known activists were left off the Conservative Slate.

The nucleus of that uprising was the Placer County Republican Congress. A group of Republicans whose power base is in Auburn. No dig deal, a moderate group… no big deal until they start attacking Conservatives like Mike Holmes likes to do.

Given recent comments by soon-to-be Kool-Aid award winner Mike Holmes and others, it looks like they are re-energized by the arrival of their patron saint Doug Ose.

Leave it to Doug Ose to play the ethics card, taking a direct swipe at John Doolittle. He began his campaign stating his superior qualifications are based on unproven allegations against both Doolittle and Rico Oller. As in vote for Doug Ose – because Doolittle was unethical and his little pet Rico Oller is too. This way, Ose can hope that voters ignore his record.

Ose just got his lunch eaten by McClintock’s entry into the race.

Doug Ose is the gift that keeps on giving – in 2002, he was one of the biggest boosters of the Placer County Republican Congress. Ose works and worked closely with the Log Cabin Republicans – whose prime mission it is to change the GOP Platform – and worked with them in the aborted 2002 attempt on the GOP committee.

In a recent Auburn Journal column, Jim Ruffalo sarcastically mentioned that if Mods took over the Placer GOP committee it would be a sign of the apocalypse. Ruffalo either is ignoring the past behavior or does not know the History.

Ruffalo need only look at the Ose-backed GOP committee in Sacramento County to see Ose’s vision of the Republican Party. We are rightfully concerned, because first thing that Moderate-Controlled committee did was show the Conservatives the back of their hands and thus alienated their volunteer base. Dan Lungren, also a booster of the Sac GOP committee’s leadership has seen his district hemmorhage registration.

Doug Ose remembers – he headlined events for the Placer County Republican Congress at their zenith in 2002 when they had conservatives in the cross-hairs.

Doug Ose through his penchant for supporting Democrats for election to local office, the MainStreet Partnership whose dedicated mission it is to attack other Republicans and his own direct involvement in the 2002 cycle - prove that when he was on the air yesterday calling himself a Conservative, you don’t even need to look at his horrid voting record to see that absurd lie.

Dan Lungren and Lew Uhler are not the final arbitrator of what defines a Conservative. The CRA is a much better – but not perfect barometer. I will bet that McClintock will get a CRA endorsement by a larger margin than Oller did.

I have said it before – the duck needs both its’ wings to fly… but based on the behavior of Doug Ose, his vision of the GOP world is a party that is devoid of a moral platform that drinks the Eco Kool-Aid and uses our wallets for Earmarks. This is not inclusion – this is called Conservatives, take your Bibles and get lost. Doug Ose’s vision of the GOP as evidenced by his record.
