Sue Horne's campaign team caught with some "straight talk" of their own...

Posted by Aaron Park on February 01, 2008 at 06:20 PM

Sue Horne has been touting endorsements from prominent liberals in the 3rd AD.

Her endorsers include people who prefer Democrats to Republicans and who are affiliated with Environmental causes and Labor Unions. I guess Sue Horne is using a page from the McCain school of Republican primaries – trying to get the support of non-Republicans, Republicans who prefer Democrats and leaving your base behind.

Witness Dan Logue gaining the endorsement of GOP County Chairman number five out of seven possible in the district. This would be Sierra County GOP Chairman Don Russell who joined Lassen, Yuba, Butte and Placer in supporting Dan Logue.

Former GOP Chairmen seem to prefer Dan Logue as well as I see only one former County GOP Chairman on Horne’s list.

The fact that the GOP base is coalescing around Logue must be troublesome for Sue Horne.

For at least most of today – her website had listed an endorsement from the Nevada County Republican Central Committee. This was an apparent reaction to the endorsements of Logue as it was patently inaccurate.

I spoke with the Nevada County GOP Chairman at the John Doolittle retirement announcement and he said he was staying out and the four former Nevada GOP Chairman “said all that needed to be said”. (The four former chairmen sent out a letter explaining their support of Logue)

Only Terry Robinson – who reads and comments on this blog, is listed as a GOP supporter of Sue Horne in Nevada County. State Senator Sam Aanestad R-Grass Valley has endorsed Dan Logue.

Recently, team Horne removed the reference from the website quietly. This underscores the dichotomy between Logue and Horne – Horne can not even shore up the Republican base in her own home county. Logue, on the other hand has roughly 80% of the activist endorsements from Republican leaders in the District.

There is a clear distinction in the 3rd Assembly race – Dan Logue doesn’t have to change his website to reflect Republican support.

Aaron,

There you go again! You’re as predictable as a new day. The listed endorsement for the NCRCC was obviously an unfortunate misunderstanding, things like this happen in every campaign, you know that as well as I do. When Sue found out about the mistake she promptly removed it, the “Right” thing to do, pun intended.

While I don’t speak for the Nevada County Chairman, and neither do you, I’m sure your referenced quote is either taken out of context, a misquote, or both. The “Left” thing to do.

I suggest your readers, if there are any, should read for themselves the Chairman’s opinion in his letter to the editor which spells out his position on endorsements for races with multiple REP candidates. His policy is also the “Right” thing to do.

Hi Terry – I talked to the NCRCC chairman, not you. If you’d like to dispute what he told me and what I heard – then do so.

Misunderstanding! Some misunderstanding – multiple calls and e-mails later, the website gets corrected.

I stand by what I wrote, that action was deliberate – and you were not party to my conversations either.

BTW – that letter to the editor is consistent with what your County Chairman told me as well. In that context – is when he told me that the four previous chairmen said what needed to be said.

Aaron,

You seem to hear lots of things, much of which turns out to be factually incorrect.

The activities of Laverne who it turns out doesn’t exist.

Yuba County being in better financial shape than Nevada County, Way off base there.

I could go on but why bother no one will check it out.

Just because you wish something to be true doesn’t make it so.

Terry – you forgot the blog post about their resolution some 4 weeks after the fact where they incriminated themselves! Maybe I should re-post that blog entry so you can read it again.

What is clear is that you acknowledged the fact that Horne was claiming endorsements that simply don’t exist!

What is also clear is that the support coalescing behind Horne are the liberals / establishment and that behind Logue are the activists / conservatives.
