Charlie Brown on Independent Thought: "I disobeyed direct orders"

Posted by Aaron Park on October 10, 2008 at 10:57 AM

I think this is the brainchild of Brett Rambo Shylock. I just don’t think lollypopadopolous could think of this one.

When pressed by a question at the 10/9/2008 candidate forum about whether or not he would be independent of Nancy Pelosi, Charlie Brown gave an astounding answer.

MODERATOR: So the question is what evidence from your past would convince me that you would stand up to Nancy Pelosi. What issues do you disagree most with of her liberal positions?

BROWN: Evidence from my past about standing up to Speaker Pelosi. The best example I can give you is disobeying direct orders when I was in the military. As a military officer you are supposed to obey lawful orders from those appointed over you. I can think of a couple occasions when I decided that the orders given to me were wrong. The most graphic example was a crash down in Florida. I was out on a training mission. We were aware of a crash. Our command post told us, “Stay on your training mission. Don’t go after the pilots. So we made the conscious decision. We were going to disobey that, because I was a rescue helicopter pilot. I had the resources right there in hand. We went over to the crash site. We were the first on the scene. Unfortunately that resulted in collecting the first body. We were able to direct a second helicopter to get there, and when I got back and was told, “OK, you disobeyed an order, but you did the right thing.” That stayed with me my whole Air Force career. Sometimes you have to buck the leadership to do the right thing.

I’m Sorry – but the only order you can disobey without facing a court martial is when your superior orders you to commit a felony. I have a hard time believing this story is even real.
